SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – While the Reno Aces opened the scoring on Friday with the Salt Lake Bees, the Bees buzzed back to secure an 11-1 victory over Reno in game four of their series on Friday.
The rehabbing Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was the primary source of the Aces’ (22-27/54-70) first and only run of the night, as his sacrifice fly drove home Pavin Smith who had kicked off the game with a single to center field.
From that point forward it was all about the Bees (18-31/57-66), who produced the game‘s next 11 runs from the second through the seventh. All the offense started with four in the hone half of the second, which handed the loss to Reno starter Jose Cabrera (1-3). The right-hander left after just 3.2 innings of work, allowing eight runs on nine hits including three home runs allowed.
Only Landon Sims tossed a scoreless outing from the bullpen, retiring both of the batters he faced to end the eighth.
Reno managed just five hits in the contest, with the only extra-base knock going to Anderdson Rojas thanks to his double in the top half of the third. Each of the top three spots in Reno’s order had a hit in Smith, LuJames Groover, and Adrian Del Castillo, all of which were singles while Smith scored the run.
The Aces will need a win in the next game to avoid a series loss, and game five gets underway on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. PT.
