RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels rallied twice late and beat the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-7, in 10 innings on Sunday evening at CarMax Park.
The Flying Squirrels (72-52, 29-27 second half) snapped their season-high four-game losing streak to finish the series against the Sea Dogs (64-61, 29-28).
Trailing, 7-6, entering the bottom of the 10th, Maui Ahuna singled to advanced place runner Sabin Ceballos to third. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Hudson White (Loss, 0-1) walked Zane Zielinski to force home the tying run.
Trevor Cohen followed with a single to right, scoring Ahuna to win the game.
The Flying Squirrels picked up their 12th walk-off win this year, tying 2017 for the most in a season in franchise history. They have at least one walk-off win in 10-of-11 home series in 2026. Richmond also picked up its 36th come-from-behind win of the year and improved to 11-1 in extra innings.
Richmond led, 5-3, entering the top of the ninth inning. Tyler McDonough tied the score with a two-run homer and Yoelin Cespedes hit a two-out double to give Portland a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Lisbel Diaz brought home Cohen on a fielder’s choice to tie the score, 6-6.
The Sea Dogs moved ahead, 7-6, in the top of the 10th. Placed runner Ahbram Liendo scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by McDonough. Mitch White (Win, 5-4) stranded a runner on base to hold the deficit at one run.
The Flying Squirrels opened a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Dayson Croes hit a one-out double and Dakota Jordan walked to set up a three-run homer by Diaz, his second with Richmond.
Richmond starter Jacob Bresnahan, making his Double-A debut, issued four walks in the second innings to force in a run.
Jancel Villarroel tripled to lead off the bottom of the second and later scored on a play where Jack Payton was caught attempting to steal second base. Cohen followed with a solo homer, his third at Double-A, to open a 5-1 Richmond lead.
Johanfran Garcia hit a solo homer for the Sea Dogs in the top of the third. In the top of the fourth, Nelly Taylor singled home a run to close the score to 5-3.
Bresnahan tied his career high with five walks, but he did not have any after the second inning. He finished his day with three runs allowed over five innings and eight strikeouts.
With his debut, Bresnahan became the third-youngest pitcher in Flying Squirrels franchise history, trailing only Kyle Harrison and Adalberto Mejia.
Esmerlin Vinicio threw 2.2 scoreless relief innings for the Flying Squirrels and allowed one hit with four strikeouts.
The Flying Squirrels open a six-game road series against the RubberDucks on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park.
Following the road trip, the Flying Squirrels return home for their final series of the regular season against the Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, from Sept. 8-13.
