RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels drew 468,961 fans to CarMax Park in the ballpark’s inaugural season in 2026, setting a new franchise record. The team averaged 7,105 fans per game, also a new team record.
The Flying Squirrels led all 30 Double-A Minor League Baseball teams across the country in total and average attendance for the fifth consecutive season, a streak dating back to 2022.
“We are grateful for the support of the Richmond region throughout an incredible inaugural season at CarMax Park,” said Flying Squirrels General Manager Anthony Oppermann. “Throughout the spring and summer, it has been a privilege to welcome more than 468,000 fans through the gates of CarMax Park, and we look forward to creating more memories for years to come.”
The total attendance of 468,961 passed the previous franchise record of 463,942 set during the Flying Squirrels’ inaugural season in 2010, when Double-A schedules featured more games. There were four fewer home openings in 2026 than in 2010. It was also the highest total attendance for an Eastern League team since 2005.
Over 66 openings, the Flying Squirrels average of 7,105 set a new franchise record, surpassing the previous mark of 6,768 in 2025. It was the highest average attendance in the Eastern League since 2004.
The season began with the Flying Squirrels’ 16th consecutive Opening Night sellout in the inaugural game at CarMax Park on April 7.
The Flying Squirrels begin the Eastern League Southwest Division Series on the road against the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night.
