RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Flying Squirrels take on the Erie SeaWolves in the Eastern League Southwest Division Series. This is the third time in the last five seasons Richmond and Erie have faced off in the Division Series.
Game 1 of the Division Series will be played in Erie, Pa. The Flying Squirrels will host Game 2 of the Southwest Division Series on Thursday, Sept. 17, with first pitch set for 6:45 p.m. If necessary, the decisive Game 3 will be at CarMax Park on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6:45 p.m.
Fans attending home playoff games at CarMax Park will receive a playoff rally towel giveaway, while supplies last. Each home game of the Southwest Division Series will feature postgame fireworks presented by Chick-fil-A. The Flying Squirrels encourage fans to wear red at each playoff game as the team aims to "Paint the Town Red."
Should the Flying Squirrels advance to the Eastern League Championship Series, Game 1 will be held at CarMax Park on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2:15 p.m.
Each game of the playoffs can be heard locally on The New Sports Radio 910 The Fan and now on FM at 105.1, the flagship home of the Flying Squirrels since 2010. Each game will also be livestreamed MiLB.tv.
In 2022, Erie won the series 2-0 with a 9-3 win in game one at UPMC Park in Erie on Sept. 20. Erie traveled to Richmond for game two and beat the Flying Squirrels 6-2 in front of 9,159 people at The Diamond on Sept. 22.
The following year, Erie again swept Richmond 2-0 in the Division Series. The SeaWolves won game one 5-0. Richmond collected two hits in the second inning, then could not get a baserunner for the rest of the game. Richmond lost game two 7-3. Erie’s Chris Meyers hit two home runs in the game.
Richmond has made four previous postseason appearances, and two Eastern League Championship Series, since the franchise’s inception in 2010. The Flying Squirrels are looking for the franchise’s first Eastern League Championship this season.
