AKRON, Ohio – The Richmond Flying Squirrels lost to the Akron RubberDucks, 9-0, on Saturday night at 7 17 Credit Union Park.
The Flying Squirrels (73-56, 30-31 second half) matched their longest losing streak of the season with a fourth consecutive defeat to the RubberDucks (65-63, 30-30).
The RubberDucks opened a 3-0 lead in the second inning against Flying Squirrels starter Jacob Bresnahan (Loss, 0-1), facing his former organization for the first time. Alex Mooney hit an RBI single, Christian Knapczyk brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Jaison Chourio added an RBI double.
In the fourth, Aaron Walton hit a three-run double to extend the lead Akron lead to 6-0.
Bresnahan pitched four innings and allowed six runs on a career-high 10 hits.
The Flying Squirrels issued six walks in the fifth inning, including back-to-back bases-loaded walks by Knapczyk and Chourio before a run-scoring fielder’s choice hit into by Jace LaViolette to extend the lead to 9-0.
Shane Rademacher pitched 3.1 scoreless relief innings for the Flying Squirrels.
Akron pitchers Rife Schlesinger, Carter Rustad, Zane Morehouse (Win, 1-2) and Zach Jacobs combined to hold Richmond to 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 on base.
The series concludes Sunday night. Left-hander Greg Farone (5-10, 5.43) will start for Richmond opposed by Akron right-hander Ryan Degges (0-0, 3.22). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at 7 17 Credit Union Park in Akron.
Following the road trip, the Flying Squirrels return home for their final series of the regular season against the Chesapeake Baysox, Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, next Tuesday through Sunday.
