
HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels' three-game winning streak ended Saturday night in a 7-2 loss against the Harrisburg Senators at FNB Field.
The Flying Squirrels (66-46, 23-21) left 13 runners on base in the defeat and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
The Senators (57-56, 23-21) grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the first inning on a two-run single by Ethan Petry.
Dayson Croes blasted a solo home run in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Harrisburg answered back in the bottom of the fifth when Kevin Bazzell scored from third and gave the Senators a two-run lead.
Petry struck again in the fifth with a two-run homer against Tyler Switalski (Loss, 1-4) to up the Harrisburg advantage to 5-1. Kevin Bazzell doubled in the next at-bat and later scored on a base hit to move the Senators lead to five runs.
With runners at first and second in the eighth inning, Jack Payton drove an RBI single against Harrisburg reliever Holden Powell (Save, 7), moving the score to 6-2. Payton finished the game with a season-high three hits, including two doubles.
Harrisburg plated a run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a wild pitch, scoring Nick Mitchell from third to give the Senators a 7-2 lead.
Senators reliever Thomas Schultz (Win, 3-5) covered two hitless innings and stranded five baserunners.
The series concludes with a rubber game Sunday afternoon. Left-hander Greg Farone (5-9, 5.60) gets the start for Richmond against Harrisburg left-hander Alex Clemmey (4-6, 4.51). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at FNB Field in Harrisburg.
