After splitting the Duel of the Dishes on Thursday, the Rochester Red Wings (17-14, 62-42) handled the Syracuse Mets (13-17, 51-54) with ease on Friday evening, blowing past the Mets 10-1. Rochester put up nine in the bottom half of the third and never looked back. At the plate, C Riley Adams homered as part of a 2-for-3 night, adding three runs, while 1B Abimelec Ortiz launched his 18th round-tripper of the season. On the mound, RHP Luis Perales fired 5.0 scoreless innings for the second time this month and picked up his fifth win of the season, while six Red Wings recorded multi-hit games as the club moved back to 20 games over .500.

After a string of quick innings, the Red Wings finally broke through in the third. A pair of singles off the bats of Riley Adams and DH Maxwell Romero Jr., and a base on balls courtesy of SS Seaver King, loaded the bases for 2B Phillip Glasser. The Indiana Hoosier product promptly lined a ball 104.5 MPH off the base of the right field wall, bringing home Adams and Romero Jr., making it 2-0 Wings. On the very next pitch, RF Christian Franklin pounced on a slider and spun it just inside the first base line for the second Red Wings double of the inning, extending Rochester’s lead to three. The Red Wings offense still had a little more in the tank, as Abimelec Ortiz lined a two-run homer 397 feet over the right field fence to extend Rochester’s lead to six.
After a Syracuse pitching change with still no outs in the frame, Rochester continued its offensive onslaught. 3B Trey Lipscomb greeted the new Mets pitcher with a first-pitch single, which was then followed by a six-pitch walk to CF Andrew Pinckney. Adams then loaded the bases again on a dramatic ABS overturned strike three, to load the bases for the second time in the inning, and yet again Rochester would capitalize, this time the culprit was King, who fisted one up the middle, putting the Red Wings up by eight.
A Phillip Glasser bloop single drove in Adams to continue the inning, who crossed the plate for the second time in the inning, making it 9-0 after three innings of play. Adams became the first Red Wings catcher to score two runs in the same innings since Tomás Telis did so in the sixth inning on August 8, 2019, vs. Buffalo.
Riley Adams' big night was far from over, as he toasted a ball 110.6 MPH over the Syracuse bullpen in left field for his 10th round tripper of the season, giving the Red Wings a commanding 10-0 lead at the end of the fifth.
After eight scoreless innings, Syracuse finally broke through in the ninth, but the rally came too late. LF Christian Pache opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by 1B Christian Arroyo. Both runners moved up 90 feet after former Red Wing SS Zach Short drew the second walk of the inning. Pache scored on a fielder's choice by 2B Ji Hwan Bae, while Arroyo advanced to third. A game-ending groundout limited Syracuse to one run.
Right-hander Luis Perales got the start for Rochester, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing four hits, walking two, and striking out seven. Perales finished July with a 1.46 ERA across five outings (4 GS) in July. LHP Erik Tolman was the first out of the bullpen, pitching 1.0 inning and striking out two. LHP Konnor Pilkington took over for Tolman and pitched 1.0 inning of his own, allowing two hits while striking out one. RHP Zak Kent was next, retiring the side in the eighth on a lineout and two groundouts. RHP Justin Lawrence worked the ninth inning, allowing one hit, one run, and two walks while striking out one.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is C Riley Adams. The former San Diego Torero went 2-for-3 with a home run and a single that sparked Rochester's nine-run rally. This month, the righty catcher is slashing .345/.443/.672 with nine extra-base hits and 10 RBI.
Rochester will play game five of the series against the Mets Saturday at 6:45 p.m., as they look to win two in a row against their I-90 rival to the east. LHP Andrew Alvarez will make his first start for Rochester since May 8. LHP Jonathan Santucci will make the start for the Mets, in what will be his Triple-A debut.
