The Rochester Red Wings (18-14, 63-42) capitalized on an opportunity to pick up their 11th series victory of the season Saturday night, beating Syracuse (13-18, 51-55) in a low-scoring pitcher’s duel, 3-1. Eight Red Wings pitchers saw time on the mound, kicked off by 2.0 scoreless innings by LHP Jared Simpson. On the offensive side of things, RF Leandro Pineda became the first Red Wing in eight years to log a triple and two doubles in the same game, going 3-for-4 to lead the way.

After a scoreless first inning, Rochester broke through in the second as C Riley Adams singled to open the frame. Following a strikeout, Leandro Pineda ripped a triple to center field, scoring Adams to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. 3B Phillip Glasser then drew a walk to put runners on the corners before CF Christian Franklin lined a double into the right-field corner, plating Pineda to extend Rochester's lead to 2-0.
After five scoreless innings in which Rochester allowed just two hits, Syracuse broke through in the sixth as C Hayden Senger homered to left field, trimming the Red Wings' lead to 2-1.
After a flyout opened the bottom of the sixth inning, Leandro Pineda ripped his second double of the game. Following a strikeout, Christian Franklin lined a single to score Pineda, extending Rochester's lead to 3-1.
Syracuse came to bat in the top of the ninth in search of two runs to tie, but went down in order to hand Rochester their fourth win of the series.
Jared Simpson got the start for Rochester, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out one. Rehabbing RHP Brad Lord took over for Simpson and pitched 1.0 inning, striking out two. LHP Alex Young followed Lord and pitched 1.1 innings, inducing three groundouts and one flyout. RHP Jack Sinclair took over for Young and pitched 1.0 inning, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one. LHP Konnor Pilkington entered in relief of Sinclair and recorded two outs, striking out both batters he faced. RHP Paxton Schultz was called upon after Pilkington and pitched 1.0 inning, recording one strikeout. RHP Zak Kent took the ball after Schultz and pitched 1.0 inning, recording two popouts and one strikeout. RHP Gus Varland closed out the game for Rochester with a scoreless inning, recording two flyouts and one strikeout, earning the save.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is RF Leandro Pineda, who became the first Red Wing since Ryan Lamar on May 15, 2018 (also vs. SYR) to record two doubles and a triple in a single. The Venezuelan native also scored two of Rochester's three runs today and improved his slash line to .500/0.571/1.000 over his first four Triple-A games.
Rochester will play the final game of the series against the Mets Sunday at 1:05 p.m., as they look to win three in a row against their I-90 East rival. LHP Jackson Kent will take the ball for the Red Wings against RHP Tobias Myers for the Mets.
