Back in the Flower City, the Rochester Red Wings (22-18, 67-46) began their six-game homestand Tuesday against the Charlotte Knights (21-19, 63-52) and fell in a back-and-forth game one with a final score of 8-6. 2B Cayden Wallace and DH Maxwell Romero Jr. each launched two-run homers, serving as the catalysts for the Wings' bats throughout the evening. 1B Yohandy Morales was the only Rochester hitter to log a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

The two International League-East foes traded a run each in the opening inning, as Charlotte led off with a walk drawn by 2B Rikuu Nishida. Shortly after, 3B Mario Camilletti drew a walk of his own, followed by a wild pitch that would advance Nishida to third and Camilletti to second. C Michael Turner went on to send an RBI single to left field, sending Nishida to home plate, putting the Knights up 1-0.
In the ensuing half-inning, the Red Wings responded with a leadoff double sent by SS Seaver King, followed by a base hit to left field shot by LF Phillip Glasser that put runners on the corners. Glasser went on to steal second base, and in the process, King scampered home on a stolen base of his own to tie the game at one run apiece.
The Knights responded quickly in the second inning after CF Dru Baker singled on a line drive to right field, with Mario Camilletti walking shortly after. Following a pitching change, DH Ryan Galanie logged an RBI single to left field, allowing Baker to score a run to give Charlotte the lead at 2-1.
Rochester answered with a sequence of events that began with a walk to 2B Cayden Wallace, who eventually stole second and reached third on a throwing error. DH Maxwell Romero Jr. followed this up with a two-run homer to center field that bounced right above the 390-foot mark on the left-center field wall, giving the Red Wings a 3-2 advantage heading into the third.
For what is now six consecutive games with multiple home runs, the Red Wings extended this streak and extended their lead after Cayden Wallace smashed a 407-foot two-run homer in the fourth. Wallace sent himself and C Riley Adams, who previously had walked, all the way around the diamond to make it 5-2 Rochester.
Charlotte replied with a run in the fifth that was produced largely due to Ryan Galanie’s baserunning following his infield single. A wild pitch led Galanie all the way to third base, and after a groundout, Galanie made his way to home plate to make it 5-3 for the Red Wings.
The Wings' lead grew in the ensuing half-inning with a series of events that started with 1B Yohandy Morales sending a single to left field. 3B Trey Lipscomb followed this up with an RBI single to right field, allowing Morales to score a run, with Lipscomb finding second due to a throwing error. Charlotte prevented further damage as Rochester headed into the sixth up 6-3.
Former Red Wing and LF Joey Wiemer led the Knights off in the sixth with a single to right field and stole second immediately after. Wiemer scampered home on an RBI single shot to left field by SS Andy Weber. The Red Wings prevented any additional offense from the Knights and held the score at 6-4.
The Knights took the lead in the seventh inning after Michael Turner logged a single to center field, followed by RF Junior Perez walking, which sent Turner to second. Shortly after, 1B Tim Elko blasted a three-run homer to left field, clearing the bases and giving Charlotte their first lead since the second inning, 7-6.
In the eighth, Charlotte scored another run with a sequence that featured yet another Mario Camilletti walk and a stolen base to put himself into scoring position. Michael Turner went on to draw a free pass as well, and so did Junior Perez, setting up bases loaded for the Knights. After a pitching change and a wild pitch, Camilletti made his way to home plate, extending the lead to 8-6 for the Knights.
In search of at least two runs, the Red Wings came in to bat in the ninth to try and steal game one, but ultimately went down in order to solidify an 8-6 final score.
RHP Luis Perales made his 19th start of the season this evening. The hard-throwing righty allowed two runs on two hits, walked four batters, and struck out four in 1.2 innings. RHP Andry Lara replaced Perales in the second. In 1.1 innings, Lara did not allow a run, gave up only one hit, and struck out one batter while walking another. Southpaw Matt Krook took the ball from Lara in the fourth. In 2.0 innings, Krook allowed one run on one hit and added two strikeouts. RHP Cole Henry took over in the sixth inning. Henry gave up one run on three hits in 1.0 inning of work. RHP Jack Sinclair came in to pitch in the seventh. In 1.0 inning, Sinclair allowed three runs on three hits, walked two batters, and threw one strikeout. RHP Justin Lawrence came in in the eighth. Lawrence put in 0.1 of an inning and walked three batters while logging a strikeout. RHP Eddy Yean replaced Lawrence in the eighth and recorded one strikeout in 0.2 of an inning. The eighth pitcher of the night for Rochester took the mound in the ninth, as LHP Carson Palmquist threw two strikeouts in 1.0 clean inning.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is 2B Cayden Wallace. The 25-year-old from Little Rock led the Wings bats in game one with a two-run homer smashed in the fourth inning. The Arkansas product finished the contest 1-for-3, while adding a walk and a second run scored. He has now picked up a hit in five consecutive games since August 6.
The Red Wings will proceed in their homestand against Charlotte, with game two of the series slated for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday night. LHP Jared Simpson (0-0, 2.45) will take the mound for Rochester.
