After an hour rain delay Wednesday night, the Rochester White Hots (22-18, 68-46) used a 10-run eighth inning to defeat Charlotte Knights (21-20, 63-53) 13-1. Rochester manager Matt LeCroy earned his 1,000th Minor League win in the blowout. DH Riley Adams and LF Trey Lipscomb both had multi-hit games, with the latter smashing a grand slam while driving in six RBI.

After being held scoreless in the first inning, the Red Wings began the second a Trey Lipscomb single, who later moved to second on a wild pitch. Riley Adams then singled off a deflection from Charlotte's third baseman, bringing in Lipscomb and giving Rochester an early 1-0 lead.
The Knights broke through their offensive drought in the top of the third with a late two-out rally. 1B Ryan Galanie and 2B Rikku Nishida drew back-to-back walks before C Korey Lee singled to left, bringing in Galanie and moving Nishida to third as Charlotte tied the game at 1-1.
SS Seaver King and 3B Phillip Glasser reached base via a hit by pitch and a base on balls to start the home half of the sixth inning, before a well-executed double steal moved both up 90 feet. This set up 1B Yohandy Morales to drive in King on a base knock up the middle, giving the Red Wings the lead back. Adams would add one more on an infield fielder's choice, as Glasser avoided the sweeping tag at home, making it 3-1 Rochester at the end of six innings.
Rochester entered their half of the eighth inning up two, looking for some insurance runs, and Trey Lipscomb delivered. Leading off the inning, the versatile left fielder took lift off, launching an 84 MPH slider 433 feet into the downtown Rochester night for his 22nd homer of the season, making it 4-1 White Hots.
But Rochester still wasn’t done with the eighth, Adams tapped a double inside the first baseline for his third hit of the night, and then proceeded to move up to third on a rope of a double off the bat of 2B Cayden Wallace that deflected off the glove of the leaping Charlotte third baseman. This allowed Romero to bring home Adams on a chopper through the right side of the infield to make it a four run White Hots advantage.
C Maxwell Romero Jr RBI then singled to continue the inning, and Pineda walked, loading the bases for CF Johnathan Thomas. He blooped a base hit into center field, simultaneously bringing home Wallace and registering his first Triple-A hit. King, batting for the second time in the inning, added to the offensive onslaught, scoring Romero, while 3B Phillip Glasser kept it going, drawing a five-pitch walk, bringing home Rochester’s fifth run of the inning. Lipscomb added another on a soft single through the right side, making it 9-1 before Riley Adams put the finishing touches on the frame, depositing a slider into the left field picnic area for his first grand slam of the season and the team’s sixth overall, finally putting an end to 10 run inning, sending the game to the ninth, 13-1 Rochester.
RHP Gus Varland came on in the ninth inning and closed the door, solidifying a 13-1 blowout win.
Rochester opted for a bullpen game in this one. LHP Jared Simpson took the ball and fired two scoreless frames, striking out three and walking one on 30 pitches, keeping his ERA as an opener at zero. LHP Erik Tolman was the first Wing out of the pen, also only pitching one inning, allowing one run before giving way to RHP Zak Kent, who rattled off a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, allowing just one hit. RHP Kyle Nicolas continued the streak of scoreless innings for Rochester relievers, with one of his own, before RHP Justin Lawrence came on and struck out the side on 14 pitches in the seventh inning.RHP Eddy Yean came in for the eighth, throwing a scoreless frame, his ninth consecutive scoreless appearance. Gus Varland came in and closed the door in the ninth after a long bottom half of the eighth inning.
The Rochester White Hots Player of the Game today is MGR Matt LeCroy. The South Carolina native has now notched 1,000 wins as a Minor League Manager since his career began in 2009 with Single-A Hagerstown. 386 of those wins have come as skipper of the Red Wings, sixth-most in franchise history.
Rochester will play game three of the series against the Knights on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m., as they look to win two in a row. LHP Carson Palmquist is expected to start for Rochester against RHP Shane Smith for the Knights.
