Behind long balls from both LF Trey Lipscomb and SS Seaver King in the early stages of Sunday afternoon’s series finale, the Rochester Red Wings (26-19, 71-47) took down the Charlotte Knights (22-23, 64-56), 7-5, closing out the week with a 4-2 series win. Lipscomb’s moonshot was his third home run of the weekend and occurred in the bottom of the third, while SS Seaver King belted his ninth of the season. Six different pitchers were called to the hill, with RHP Jack Sinclair earning the win in a two-strikeout performance.

After a lead-off walk from RF Rikuu Nishida, the Knights wasted no time opening the scoring in the first inning as CF Junior Perez followed with a double to left field to send in Nishida to score from first. Perez was knocked in shortly after by a ground-rule double from DH Edgar Quero to give the Knights a 2-0 lead out of the gate.
2B Riley Unroe extended the Knights lead to 3-0 in the top of the second with a solo-shot that just narrowly found its way over the left-field wall.
The Red Wings offense didn’t stay quiet for long, racking up three runs of their own in their half of the second inning. C Riley Adams was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Two outs later, a double by DH Maxwell Romero Jr. and a throwing error by Knights’ outfielder Rikuu Nishida scored Adams and moved Romero Jr. to third. On the ensuing pitch, RF Leandro Pineda hit a line drive over the right-field wall to knot the game up at three.
The bats stayed hot for the Wings in the third inning, as LF Phillip Glasser led the inning off with a double to left field. Trey Lipscomb stepped up to the plate and launched a first-pitch, 411-foot shot to left field, giving the Red Wings a 5-3 lead.
Charlotte LF Joey Wiemer kicked off the top of the sixth with a hit that was airmailed by a Red Wings infielder, before he advanced to second on a throwing error by the defense during a pickoff attempt. 3B Mario Camilletti then jammed a single past a diving Red Wings outfielder, bringing Wiemer home to make the score 5-4.
The Red Wings quickly turned the tides back in their favor a half-inning later, though, as Seaver King mashed a home run to the bullpen to give the team a two-run cushion. The lead was extended a few frames later, when LF Phillip Glasser found a hole in left field with a single that scored Leandro Pineda.
The Knights turned in a score in the waning moments, as DH Edgar Quero belted a single to left field, scoring SS Andy Weber. Their momentum would be short-lived, though, as Leandro Pineda received the game’s final out to end things with a 7-5 victory for his squad.
RHP Zak Kent opened things up on the mound, dealing a trio of strikeouts while allowing three runs on four hits in his very first start of the season. The bullpen broke out soon after, as RHP Jack Sinclair entered the contest in the top of the third, with the UCF product maintaining a clean stat sheet of no runs allowed and a pair of strikeouts. RHP Paxton Schultz was given the nod in the top of the fifth, starring in 1.0 innings with a strikeout before he was sent to the dugout for RHP Riley Cornelio in the top of the sixth. Cornelio allowed just a run with two strikeouts, while RHP Justin Lawrence and RHP Kyle Nicolas were the last two arms to see time on the hill. Both allowed a run, while Nicolas finished the game off with a strikeout.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is SS Seaver King, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and tallied his ninth home run of the season with a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth. King is now slashing .327/.376/.564 with six home runs and doubles each in home games this season.
The Red Wings will head out west for a road series against the Omaha Storm Chasers (23-20, 56-61), starting on Tuesday, August 18th at 7:35 p.m. ET. The six-game set will mark the first time the Red Wings have visited Omaha since 1990.
