
The Rochester Red Wings (27-19, 72-47) were victorious over the Omaha Storm Chasers (23-21, 56-62) by a score of 8-7 Tuesday night, in their long-awaited return to the Cornhusker State. Two home runs from C Maxwell Romero Jr. powered the Red Wings offense, with the latter serving as the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Three other Red Wings notched home runs of their own to open up the road set against the Storm Chasers. Seven different Rochester pitchers saw time on the mound, as RHP Justin Lawrence picked up his first win as a Red Wing.

1B Riley Adams started the second inning for Rochester with a hard-hit double to left field. Facing a full count with two outs, Maxwell Romero Jr drilled a single to right field, sending Adams in to score and giving Rochester a 1-0 lead.
On the first pitch of his at-bat, SS Seaver King launched a bomb to deep left field, doubling the Red Wing lead to 2-0 after the top half of the third inning.
The Storm Chasers didn’t stay quiet for long, as the ensuing half inning began with hits from C Luca Tresh and 2B Peyton Wilson. DH Abraham Toro stepped up and hit a two-RBI double to score both Tresh and Wilson, tying the game up at two. SS Jack Pineda notched a double of his own, giving the Storm Chasers a 3-2 lead after Toro crossed home plate. After a Rochester pitching change, a double from 1B Brett Squires moved Pineda to third. Pineda would score shortly after off a sac fly from RF Matthew Lugo, giving Omaha a 4-2 lead after a four-run third inning.
Maxwell Romero Jr. cut the Storm Chaser lead in half with a 405-foot solo home run, making it 4-3 Omaha after four innings of play.
After right-field singles from both DH Abraham Toro and 1B Brett Squires, CF Carson Roccaforte recorded his first Triple-A hit and RBI courtesy of a single that scored Toro. A single from LF Drew Waters brought Squires home, increasing the Storm Chaser lead to 6-3 through five innings.
After a chunk of Storm Chaser runs, the Red Wings once again responded with a home run. It was DH Cayden Wallace this time knocking the ball over the wall with a solo homer, bringing the score to 6-4.
In the top of the seventh inning, 3B Trey Lipscomb recorded a one-out double for his second hit of the night. Shortly after, Riley Adams ripped a two-run, game-tying homer to opposite field for his thirteenth of the season.
The home runs didn’t stop there, as Maxwell Romero Jr kicked off the top of the eighth with a 409-foot, go-ahead home run for his second on the night. The bottom of the Wings’ order kept rolling, as 2B Liover Peguero hit a double and RF Leandro Pineda drew a walk. An RBI-single from LF Phillip Glasser scored Peguero and gave Rochester an 8-6 lead.
In the final frame, 1B Brett Squires cut the Red Wings lead down to one with an RBI single. However, the comeback effort was put to rest after a groundout to Liover Peguero closed out the 8-7 victory for the Red Wings.
LHP Matt Krook made his first start since September 2, 2022, dealing two strikeouts and allowing one hit and walk each over 2.0 innings of work. RHP Cole Henry allowed four runs on four hits in 0.1 inning. LHP Carson Palmquist came on in relief, pitching 1.2 innings with a strikeout, and allowing one hit and a walk. Up next on the mound was RHP Andry Lara, who went 2.0 innings with a strikeout, while conceding two runs on five hits. Justin Lawrence entered the game for his 10th appearance of the season, throwing one flawless, three-K inning. RHP Eddy Yean drew in next for his IL-leading 48th appearance of the season, striking out two batters through one full inning. In to close the game once again was RHP Gus Varland, who dealt one strikeout and allowed one run on three hits in his one inning of action.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is C Maxwell Romero Jr. The University of Miami product was all over the statsheet, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, two walks, and two runs scored. The home runs were his sixth and seventh in just his 21st game at the Triple-A level this season.
The Red Wings will be back in action at Werner Park Wednesday night at 7:35 p.m., as they look to win their fifth consecutive game. For Rochester, kicking things off on the mound for the fifth time this season will be LHP Jared Simpson, where he will face off against Storm Chasers’ RHP Lucas Braun.
