Red Wings Blow Past Omaha For Fifth-Straight Win

King Goes Deep, Rochester Pitchers Carry No-Hitter into Seventh

Looking to win five-straight Wednesday night, the Rochester Red Wings (28-19, 73-47) did not allow a hit until the seventh inning against the Omaha Storm Chasers (23-22, 56-63), cruising to a 7-2 victory. LHP Jared Simpson turned in 3.0 hitless innings on the mound to kick things off, and RHP Luis Perales followed with 2.0 perfect innings of his own. On the offensive side, 3B Seaver King crushed his third home run in three games and picked up three hits to lead the way.

After being shut out for the first two innings, RF Leandro Pineda crushed his sixth home run of the season, giving Rochester an early 1-0 lead. Seaver King then singled to third, advanced to second on a disengagement violation, and stole third before 1B Yohandy Morales doubled for the 18th time this season, bringing in King and extending the Red Wings' lead to 2-0.

Things continued to roll in the top of the fourth for the Wings, as 2B Cayden Wallace drew a leadoff walk. After a flyout, CF Sam Petersen singled, advancing Wallace to third. Wallace then scored on a groundout, with Petersen moving to second on the same play, as Rochester took a 3-0 lead. Seaver King followed with a two-run home run, sending the blooper 353 feet and giving the Wings a 5-0 lead.

Rochester's half of the fifth started with a walk from Yohandy Morales. The Miami product advanced to second on a wild pitch before a flyout and a strikeout. Cayden Wallace then singled, bringing in Morales as the Wings extended their lead to 6-0.

Things continued to roll in the sixth for Rochester, as Leandro Pineda singled and later moved to second on a walk from Seaver King. LF Phillip Glasser then grounded into a fielder's choice, moving Pineda to third. Yohandy Morales reached first on an error, bringing in Pineda and moving Glasser to second as Rochester extended its lead to 7-0.

It took until the seventh inning for the Storm Chasers to record their first hit, a single from 1B Abraham Toro. They then got on the board with back-to-back singles from CF Carson Roccaforte and LF Mathew Lugo, bringing in Toro as Rochester's lead shrank to 7-1. 

With their last chance to rally, the Storm Chasers started the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back walks from Abraham Toro and Carson Roccaforte. RF Jacob Berry then singled, bringing in Toro and shrinking Rochester's lead to 7-2. A groundout ended the game shortly thereafter to solidify the Red Wings fifth-straight win. 

Jared Simpson got the start for Rochester, pitching 3.0 perfect innings with four strikeouts. Luis Perales relieved Simpson, pitching 2.0 hitless innings of his own with four strikeouts. RHP Riley Cornelio came on for Perales, pitching 1.2 innings with three strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and one run. RHP Jack Sinclair came on next, pitching 1.1 innings with one hit and two strikeouts. RHP Kyle Nicolas relieved Sinclair to finish things off, pitching 1.0 inning with one strikeout and two walks.

The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game today is 3B Seaver King. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon went 3-for-4 with one walk and a two-run home run. He has now homered in each of his last three games, four of his last five, and is tied for the International League lead with six since August 8.

Rochester will play game three of the series against the Storm Chasers on Thursday at 7:35 p.m., as they look to win six in a row. RHP Zak Kent is expected to start for the Red Wings against fellow righty Henry Williams for Omaha.
