The Rochester Red Wings (30-20, 75-48) took a three-run lead in the first inning and never looked back as they defeated the Omaha Storm Chasers (24-24, 57-65) 7-2 Saturday night, earning their fourth series win in-a-row and 75th victory of the season overall. Eight Red Wing pitchers kept the Storm Chasers to just two runs while SS Trey Lipscomb and 2B Liover Peguero both drove in a pair at the plate in the big win.

The Red Wings jumped on the Storm Chasers early in this one, following a two-out single off the bat of 1B Yohandy Morales. Trey Lipscomb unloaded on a ball, dropping it into the left centerfield berm, the blast was his 27th of the campaign, extending his hitting streak to 18 while simultaneously giving the Red Wings a 2-0 lead.
The Wings weren’t done just yet. C Riley Adams singled to keep the inning afloat before road warrior 3B Cayden Wallace sent him the length of the diamond on a double, making it 3-0 Rochester after the first inning.
Omaha put together a string of one-run innings, cutting the Red Wings' lead to one. SS Alejo Lopez led off the sixth with a single before two other Storm Chasers reached on free passes, leaving the bases juiced with one out for 2B Peyton Wilson, who rolled over a grounder for the second out of the inning, but scored Lopez, cutting the Red Wings' lead to two.
Omaha chased another run across the plate in the seventh. C Luca Tresh laced a first-pitch fastball to lead off the frame, which set up Alejo Lopez's double down the left field line that advanced both runners 180 feet. CF Carson Roccaforte hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Tresh from third, making it 3-2 Red Wings after seven innings of play.
Rochester pushed back heavily in the eighth. Yohandy Morales walked, which allowed Adams to reach on a fielder's choice, placing runners on first and second for Wallace, who hit a bloop single into left field, scoring Morales standing, making it a two-run Red Wing advantage once again.
But just like the first inning, the Red Wings kept the pressure on, scoring a pair of runs on 2B Liover Peguero double that was gashed deep into the left-center field gap, making it 6-2 Rochester.
The Red Wings went on to add another run in the ninth on a Riley Adams single through the left side that scored LF Phillip Glasser, who walked to lead off the inning, making it 7-2.
RHP Gus Varland would come on to close out the game, setting down the Storm Chasers in order on just nine pitches, giving the Red Wings a 7-2 win.
LHP Matt Krook dazzled in his second opening act of the series, tossing two scoreless frames, not allowing a hit, striking out a lone batter before giving way for RHP Paxton Schultz, who also fired a scoreless inning, fanning three Storm Chasers. LHP Carson Palmquist was called upon for the bottom half of the fourth inning, but the lefty would only stay for one batter, striking him out, before being taken out of the game, forcing the Red Wings to scramble RHP Andry Lara out of the bullpen, who threw 1.2 innings, allowing a run on a hit, two walks, and a strikeout. Up next was LHP Justin Lawrence, the southpaw, who got out of not one but two bases-loaded jams, to keep the lead in Rochester’s favor. RHP Kyle Nicolas would be the sixth man out of the pen in the seventh inning. The 27-year-old would throw one inning, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two. RHP Eddy Yean would make his MiLB leading 50th appearance in the eighth, setting the Storm Chasers down in order, allowing RHP Gus Varland, the eighth Red Wing pitcher in the game, to slam the door closed on just nine pitches.
The Rochester Red Wings player of the game is SS Trey Lipscomb, the former Tennessee Volunteer smashed his 27th home run of the season, which allowed him to extend his hit streak to 18 games, the second longest in the International League this season. Over the length of the streak, Lipscomb is slashing .372/.379/.744 with nine home runs and 24 RBI.
Rochester will look to make it a five-and-one road trip on Sunday afternoon. LHP Jared Simpson will take the mound for Rochester against Omaha’s veteran right-hander, Vince Velasquez. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
