To kick off a crucial six-game set in Scranton/WB against the first-place RailRiders (23-9, 60-46) Tuesday night, the Rochester Red Wings (18-16, 63-44) fell behind early and were unable to overcome an 8-0 deficit despite a three-run eighth, falling 8-3. 2B Cayden Wallace doubled twice to pace the offense, including an RBI two-bagger in the eighth. 3B Trey Lipscomb was the only other Red Wing to log a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-5 with a double of his own and a run scored.

After two scoreless innings, Scranton/WB struck first in the third with a sequence that began when C J.C. Escarra sent a single to right field. This was followed by a double to center field by 2B Marco Luciano. Escarra was thrown out at home in the midst of the play, and Luciano later was able to reach home after SS Oswaldo Cabrera logged an RBI single to right field, putting the RailRiders up 1-0.
The RailRiders extended their lead in the fifth after CF Duke Ellis reached first on a fielding error, stole second, and eventually stole third. Shortly after, J.C. Escarra blasted a two-run homer to left field. Continuing their productive half-inning, Marco Luciano singled on a line drive to center field, and eventually reached second on a groundout. Following a pitching change, RF Yanquiel Fernández sent an RBI single to center field, sending Luciano home, putting the RailRiders up 4-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Scranton/WB increased their advantage once again when DH Christian Bethancourt singled to left field, followed by a wild pitch sending Bethancourt to second. Bethancourt was sent to home plate after LF Kenedy Corona sent an RBI single to center field, giving the RailRiders a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Oswaldo Cabrera led off with a ground ball to center field, followed by another ground ball to right field by Yanquiel Fernández. As Cabrera made his way to third, 3B Tyler Hardman sent an RBI double to left field, sending Cabrera home and Fernández to third. Shortly after, Christian Bethancourt reached on a fielder's choice, Fernández was thrown out at home, Hardman made it to third, and Bethancourt was able to find second in the process. Duke Ellis went on to log an RBI double to right field, sending Hardman and Bethancourt to home plate, giving the RailRiders an 8-0 lead entering the eighth.
Rochester’s bats came to life in the eighth with a series of events that began with LF Phillip Glasser reaching first on a fielder's choice, followed by a 3B Trey Lipscomb double to center field, which sent Glasser to third. Shortly after, 1B Riley Adams continued his recent red hot activity with an RBI single to center field, sending Glasser and Lipscomb home. 2B Cayden Wallace would go on to launch an RBI double to left field, sending Adams home to cut the lead to 8-3.
Southpaw Konnor Pilkington got the start in a bullpen night for Rochester. In 1.0 inning of work, Pilkington did not allow a run or hit, and walked one batter. LHP Jared Simpson replaced Pilkington in the second. Simpson allowed one hit, walked a batter, and struck out two batters in 1.0 inning. RHP Chandler Champlain took over in the third. In 2.2 innings, Champlain allowed three runs on five hits, and struck out one batter. LHP Erik Tolman replaced Champlain in the fifth, and allowed one run on three hits, and walked one batter while striking out another in 1.1 innings. RHP Zak Kent came in to pitch in the seventh. Kent allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one batter in 1.0 inning of work. RHP Gus Varland replaced Kent in the eighth and faced three batters in 1.0 inning to wrap up game one.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is 2B Cayden Wallace. The 24-year-old from Arizona had a productive evening in Moosic with two doubles and an RBI, going 2-for-4. The two-baggers were his first pair at the Triple-A level in his 21st game.
The Red Wings will proceed with their series in Scranton/WB on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The RailRiders will roll out RHP Alexander Cornielle (2-2, 3.77) as Rochester looks to get back into the win column.
