The Rochester Red Wings (22-17, 67-45) closed out their six-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (24-13, 61-50) in an explosive finale. Despite early trouble on the mound, Rochester's bats came alive in the middle innings, highlighted by a grand slam from 3B Trey Lipscomb and a soaring home run from SS Sevaer King. The surge ultimately wasn't enough to overcome Scranton/WB's late comeback in the eighth as the Wings fell short 9-8.

Scranton/WB struck first in the second inning after 3B Oswaldo Cabrera singled to center field, followed by a base hit to right field by RF Yanquiel Fernández, advancing Cabrera to third. Shortly after, C Christian Bethancourt logged an infield RBI single, allowing Cabrera to reach home safely and Fernández to second. Rochester wiped out two-thirds of the baserunning field with a double play, with Fernández reaching third in the process. CF Kenedy Corona went on to smash an RBI single to center field, sending Fernández home to make it 2-0 Railriders.
After a quiet third and fourth inning, Rochester found their response in the fifth after RF Leandro Pineda smashed a homer to right-center field, slicing the Railriders' lead in half at 2-1.
In the sixth, Scranton/WB extended their lead via a DH J.C. Escarra double to right field, followed by a groundout that led Escarra to third base. Shortly after, Oswaldo Cabrera hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Escarra to make it 3-1 Railriders.
The Red Wings delivered a lead-taking bang in the seventh with a series of events that began with Leandro Pineda drawing a walk, followed by a single sent to center field by SS Seaver King, sending Pineda to second. Shortly after, 1B Yohandy Morales logged an infield single that would set up the bases loaded for Rochester. This opportunity was taken full advantage of as 3B Trey Lipscomb smashed the fifth grand slam the Red Wings have produced all season, clearing the bases and putting Rochester up 5-3.
The Wings would pour it on in their half of the seventh inning, as CF Sam Petersen doubled to center field, followed by an RBI single smashed to left field by 2B Cayden Wallace, allowing Petersen to score. Wallace would go on to steal second base and advance to third due to a throwing error. DH Maxwell Romero Jr. remained red-hot in the series by blasting an RBI double to center field, allowing Wallace to easily trot home to put the Red Wings up 7-3.
The Railriders responded right away in the ensuing half-inning, as Kenedy Corona launched a solo shot to left field, putting it over the wall to make it 7-4 Rochester.
In the eighth, Seaver King added on to his productive outing with a solo home run, cushioning the Red Wings' lead at 8-4.
Scranton/WB mounted a comeback in the ensuing half-inning after 2B Marco Luciano walked, followed by a base hit to right field by Oswaldo Cabrera, sending Luciano to second. After a mound visit, Luciano went on to steal third base, and Yanquiel Fernández popped up a sacrifice fly, allowing Luciano to scamper home. Christian Bethancourt would go on to send a single to center field, giving Cabrera room to find third. Following a pitching change, Duke Ellis would substitute in for Bethancourt, and the pinch-runner would eventually steal second base.
The Railriders rallied and went all the way on to taking the lead after a wild pitch allowed Cabrera to score a run, and had Ellis get to third. Shortly after, 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. smashed an RBI double to right field, sending Ellis home. After a batter timeout, SS Anthony Volpe reached first safely on a fielder's choice, leading to Martinez Jr. scoring, and Volpe reaching second in the process. LF Jasson Domínguez closed the five-run half-inning with an RBI single to center field, sending Volpe home to make it 9-8 Railriders.
Scranton/WB closed out the series with three quick outs, sending Rochester home with a final score of 9-8.
RHP Chandler Champlain took the mound for his 15th start of the season. Champlain allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out three batters in 3.0 innings. RHP Riley Cornelio replaced Champlain in the fourth. In 2.0 innings of work, Cornelio did not allow a run or hit and struck out four batters. RHP Zak Kent came in to pitch in the sixth. In 1.0 inning, Kent allowed one run on three hits and threw one strikeout. RHP Kyle Nicolas made his 31st appearance for the Red Wings by replacing Kent in the seventh. Nicolas pitched for 1.0 inning and allowed a home run while throwing two strikeouts. RHP Andry Lara came in to pitch in the eighth. In 0.1 of an inning, Lara allowed three runs on two hits and walked one batter. RHP Gus Varland replaced Lara in the eighth. Varland allowed two runs on two hits and struck out one batter in 0.2 of an inning.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game is SS Seaver King. Now with 7 homers and 29 RBI on the season, the 23-year-old from Georgia had three hits, including a homer in the eighth inning.
The Red Wings are heading back home this upcoming week to face the Charlotte Knights (61-52, 19-19) in a six-game homestand, with game one set for Tuesday at 6:45 p.m at ESL Ballpark. Pitchers are yet to be announced.
