The Rochester Red Wings (88-57, 43-29) paired timely hitting with a sharp defensive effort to defeat the Buffalo Bisons (67-77, 32-37), 3-1, Thursday afternoon at Sahlen Field. Rochester turned four double plays, while C Maxwell Romero Jr. threw out three would-be base stealers. Offensively, 3B Cayden Wallace and RF Leandro Pineda delivered RBI doubles, and SS Seaver King broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the fifth. Wallace, King and LF Trey Lipscomb each collected two hits, backing RHP Isaac Lyon, who allowed one run across 4.0 innings. Rochester remains atop the International League second-half standings.

With one out in the top of the first, Trey Lipscomb looped his International League-leading 143rd hit of the season to get things going for the Red Wings. Cayden Wallace then smoked a double down the left field line, and Lipscomb motored around third to score on the play and give Rochester an early 1-0 advantage.
Buffalo came to bat in the bottom of the second still down by a run. DH Yohendrick Piñango shot a double into the left-center field gap to kick things off and moved to third on a single from RF Jay Harry. Following a walk to 1B Peyton Williams that loaded the bases with still no outs, a 5-4-3 double play allowed Piñango to score and tie things up at 1-1. A Rochester strikeout finished the inning and limited the damage.
The third and fourth innings proved to be scoreless, and 1B Liover Peguero led off the top of the fifth with a broken-bat single to left. He moved into scoring position on a wild pitch two batters later, and came around to score in the following plate appearance on an RBI single through the left side from Seaver King. The Red Wings carried a 2-1 lead into the halfway point of game three.
Buffalo was held off the board in the bottom half and Rochester went to work once again in the top of the sixth. Cayden Wallace led off the inning with a looping base hit and moved up to second on a groundout. Leandro Pineda then stepped up to the dish and deposited a ringing double off the left-center field wall. The two-bagger extended Pineda’s on-base streak to 34 games, and gave the Red Wings a 3-1 advantage.
The score remained the same through the middle of the ninth, and Buffalo came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth in search of two runs to tie. Peyton Williams worked a two-out walk, but was stranded at first as the Red Wings picked up their second-straight win.
RHP Isaac Lyon took the ball first for Rochester, in what was his fourth Triple-A start. The Utah native turned in 4.0 full innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. RHP Eddy Yean was the first Red Wings reliever to enter, replacing Lyon in the fifth. In his International League-leading 58th appearance of the season, the right-hander fired 2.0 scoreless innings on three hits while striking out one without a walk. RHP Gus Varland came on in the seventh and delivered a hitless, scoreless inning, striking out two and walking one before handing the ball to RHP Kyle Nicolas for the eighth. The Ohio native turned in his 10th consecutive scoreless appearance with a hitless frame, striking out a pair while walking one. Justin Lawrence came on in the ninth and closed the door with his third save as a Red Wing, allowing one walk with a strikeout in the final frame.
The Rochester Red Wings Player of the Game Thursday afternoon is backstop Maxwell Romero Jr. Behind the dish, Romero became the first Red Wings catcher since 2018 to catch at least three baserunners trying to steal in a single game. Willians Astudillo was the last to do so on May 25, 2018 vs. Buffalo.
The Red Wings and Bisons will meet for the fourth time this week Friday night, starting at 6:05 p.m. In their final night game of 2026, Rochester will send RHP Jarlin Susana to the mound for his highly anticipated Triple-A debut. Buffalo will counter with RHP CJ Van Eyk.
