The Syracuse Mets (32-28, 72-65) rallied in the ninth inning to walk off the Rochester Red Wings (37-26, 82-54), 4-3, in the series finale, earning their second walk-off win of the series. 3B Trey Lipscomb hit his 31st home run of the season in a two-hit night, while RHP DJ Herz allowed just one run over four innings in the losing effort.

The Red Wings picked up right where they left off following last night’s 14-run explosion, striking for two runs in the first inning.
3B Trey Lipscomb got things started with a one-out double into the right-center field gap. He moved up 90 feet when 2B Cayden Wallace’s base hit struck the Mets’ starting pitcher in the back, putting runners on first and third. Before C Riley Adams could even see a couple of pitches, the Mets’ starter made a pickoff attempt that sailed high and wide of his first baseman, allowing Lipscomb to trot home and give the Wings an early 1-0 lead.
Adams would later bloop a double in front of Syracuse’s charging right fielder, chasing Wallace home from second and extending Rochester’s lead to 2-0.
Syracuse got a run back in the home half of the fourth as CF De’Andre Smith launched a solo shot over the left field fence, cutting the Rochester lead to one.
Rochester would add an insurance run courtesy of Trey Lipscomb, who hit a low liner that just barely floated over the left field fence, giving the Red Wings their two-run lead back.
Lipscomb’s homer was his 31st, giving him the most homers as a Red Wing since Jim Fuller hit 39 back in 1973.
Syracuse responded in kind in their half of the eighth inning. 1B Billy Amick and LF Ryan Clifford both worked free passes to start the frame before RHP Ben Grable got 3B Nick Lorusso to tap one back to the mound for a 1-4-3 double play. Although it looked as if the Red Wings would get out of the inning, Syracuse would not back off, as a pair of doubles, thanks to C Kevin Parada and D’Andre Smith, scratched two runs across the dish, tying the ball game up at three heading to the ninth.
Syracuse walked off the Red Wings in the ninth inning after the first two Mets batters reached base and eventually scored on a bunt error, giving Syracuse its second walk-off win of the series and a 4-3 victory in the series finale.
LHP DJ Herz got the starting nod for the second time in the series. The former top 30 prospect didn’t disappoint, tossing 4.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits while fanning four. RHP Paxton Schultz was the first call out of the right field visitors' bullpen. The righty finished up the fifth inning before firing another scoreless inning, striking out one batter. LHP Richard Lovelady was called upon to make his first minor league rehab appearance in the seventh inning. The veteran southpaw retired the side in order on just nine pitches, while striking out one. RHP Ben Grable came on for the eighth inning, registering two outs and allowing two runs before being lifted out of the inning in favor of LHP Matt Krook, who played the role of fireman, getting the Red Wings out of the jam and into the ninth. RHP Eddy Jean got the call for his International League-leading 56th appearance, looking to send the game to extras, but things wouldn’t go his way; the big righty gave up the winning run while not registering an out.
The Rochester Red Wings player of the game is 3B Trey Lipscomb. The former Tennessee Volunteer hit his 31st home run of the season and second of the series in this one, finishing the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Since August 3, Lipscomb is slashing .328/.353/.687 with 22 extra base hits and 31 RBI.
Rochester heads back home on Monday to host an afternoon Labor Day contest against the Scranton W/B Railriders. First pitch is slated for 4:05 from ESL Ballpark.
