ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings, together with Visions Federal Credit Union, have selected five local educators for the Outstanding Teacher Recognition, honoring their lasting contributions to students, families, and school communities.
The honorees were chosen from nominations submitted through a dedicated email campaign. Those nominations told stories of educators whose compassion, creativity, and dedication reach well beyond daily lessons, helping students feel supported, included, and ready to succeed.
One honoree was described by a student as his “safety guy,” someone who helped him feel secure, confident, and celebrated in the classroom and at the Special Olympics. Another champions inclusion through peer-support programming, Unified sports, school committees, and advocacy for students throughout the community.
Families recalled how a third honoree brought them together during the COVID-19 pandemic through virtual bingo nights and bedtime stories, creating connections they still remember years later. A fourth provided extraordinary support to a student whose family was navigating a young sibling’s serious illness, continuing to support the student’s learning during summer break.
The fifth honoree has taught across multiple grade levels, helped colleagues navigate technology during the pandemic, and advocated for students and families. This educator also uses baseball books, games, and Red Wings outings to connect with students.
“When you read these nominations, you realize just how lucky we are to have teachers like these in our community,” said Rochester Red Wings General Manager, DAN MASON. “They put their hearts into helping their students every day. We’re thrilled to team up with Visions Federal Credit Union to give these five teachers some well-deserved time in the spotlight and let our fans help us celebrate them.”
The five educators are expected to be recognized throughout the Red Wings’ final homestand of the season, with individual presentation dates determined by recipient availability.
“At Visions Federal Credit Union, we believe educators help build stronger students, families and communities,” said MICAH MELLANDER, Branding Manager, Visions Federal Credit Union. “We are honored to serve as the presenting sponsor of this recognition and celebrate these five deserving teachers for the lasting difference they make every day.”
The Outstanding Teacher Recognition reflects the Red Wings’ and Visions Federal Credit Union’s shared commitment to celebrating educators and the people who strengthen communities throughout the region.
The Rochester Red Wings are operated by Rochester Community Baseball, Inc., and have been a community-owned professional baseball franchise since 1957.
