MADISON, AL — Angels top pitching prospect Tyler Bremner delivered his best Double-A start yet, combining with Chris Cortez and Camden Minacci on a five-hit shutout as the Rocket City Trash Pandas (26-24, 61-57) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (21-29, 56-59), 2-0, on Saturday night at Toyota Field. The victory, played in front of 6,740 fans — the third-largest crowd of the season at Toyota Field — clinched the six-game series for Rocket City, which has won four of the first five games against Biloxi.
Bremner, the second overall selection in the 2025 MLB Draft, was dominant in his third start with the Trash Pandas. The right-hander tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out eight to earn his first Double-A victory and record his first quality start with Rocket City.
Bremner set the tone immediately, needing only 10 pitches to retire Biloxi in order in the first. He worked around a one-out single by Damon Keith in the second before retiring the Shuckers in order again in the third, striking out David García along the way.
Rocket City had its first scoring opportunity in the third against Biloxi starter Jaron DeBerry. Jake Thompson singled to right with one out before Arjun Nimmala followed with a single to center, but Thompson was thrown out attempting to advance to third. DeBerry retired Nick Rodriguez to keep the game scoreless.
The Trash Pandas finally broke through in the fourth. Jake Munroe drew a leadoff walk, extending his franchise-record on-base streak to 35 consecutive games, before Caleb Bartolero drove a triple to center to score Munroe and give Rocket City a 1-0 lead. Bartolero then came home when Biloxi catcher David García’s pickoff attempt sailed away for a throwing error, doubling the advantage to 2-0.
Given a lead, Bremner became even tougher. Biloxi threatened in the fourth when Jesús Made reached on an infield single and stole second before Braylon Payne drew a two-out walk. Bremner responded by striking out Keith on a foul tip to strand both runners and preserve the two-run advantage.
That began a dominant finish to Bremner’s night. He struck out Mike Boeve and Daniel Guilarte as part of a perfect fifth before striking out Dylan O’Rae and Luis Peña to begin a perfect sixth. Made grounded out to end the frame, completing a stretch in which Bremner retired the final seven batters he faced, including five by strikeout.
Cortez took over in the seventh and kept the shutout intact despite Biloxi putting runners at the corners with two outs. Cortez induced pinch-hitter Josh Adamczewski to line out to right to escape the threat. The right-hander worked around two more singles in the eighth, getting O’Rae to ground into a double play before retiring Made to finish 2.0 scoreless innings.
Rocket City had chances to add to its lead late. Cole Fontenelle doubled to center in the seventh and stole third, but was stranded. Nimmala and Rodriguez then opened the eighth with consecutive singles and advanced on a wild pitch, but Biloxi escaped without allowing another run.
Camden Minacci took the ball in the ninth and needed just 12 pitches to finish the shutout. Minacci retired Andrew Fischer on a groundout before striking out Payne and Keith in succession to earn his second save of the season.
Bremner (W, 1-2), Cortez and Minacci combined to allow five hits and two walks while striking out 11, holding Biloxi hitless in two opportunities with runners in scoring position. The performance marked Rocket City’s fourth shutout of the season. Rocket City’s bullpen has dominated over the last four games, allowing just one run on six hits over 18.1 innings, while striking out 26 and walking seven. Over the last seven games, Trash Pandas relievers own a 0.98 ERA (3 ER/27.2 IP) with 38 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Nimmala and Rodriguez each finished with two hits to lead Rocket City’s seven-hit attack, while Bartolero’s RBI triple accounted for the game’s only run batted in. Munroe went hitless but drew his fourth-inning walk to extend his on-base streak to 35 games, the longest by a Southern League player this season.
