ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock Express LHP Anthony Veneziano was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for August 31-September 6, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday afternoon. The E-Train have taken home the weekly honor in three of the last five weeks after Express LHP Dalton Pence won it for August 3-9 and RHP David Davalillo won the award from August 10-16.
In his lone start last week on Friday, September 4, Veneziano tossed a season-high 6.1 scoreless innings against the Oklahoma City Comets (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) at Dell Diamond. He allowed only two hits with one walk and four strikeouts while earning a no decision. It was the first time Veneziano has tossed 6.0 innings or more in a start since Septemeber 15, 2023, while pitching for the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.
Veneziano allowed only one batter to reach third base. The lone walk the lefty issued came in the second inning. He came back and finished the frame by striking out the side. The start marked the fourth time in his career he has tossed 6.1 innings or more in his career. This was the 12th quality start thrown by an Express pitcher this season.
Since signing with the Rangers to a minor league contract on July 24, Veneziano is 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA (6 ER/30.2 IP) with seven walks and 27 strikeouts over eight games and four starts for Round Rock. Since July 24, he is first in the PCL in ERA among pitchers that have thrown at least 20.0 innings while his 1.11 WHIP is second in the league.
The Hackettstown, New Jersey native was originally drafted in the 10th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Coastal Carolina University by the Kansas City Royals. He has pitched in the Major Leagues over three different seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2023-2024), Miami Marlins (2024-2025) and St. Louis Cardinals (2025).
Veneziano is scheduled to start on Thursday, September 10 at The Ballpark at America First Square against the Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels affiliate). The Express return home for the final homestand of the 2026 season against the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners affiliate) from Tuesday, September 14-Sunday, September 20.
