ROUND ROCK, Texas – Round Rock Express RHP David Davalillo was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for August 10-16, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday afternoon. The E-Train have taken home the weekly honor in back-to-back weeks after Express LHP Dalton Pence won it for August 3-9.
In his lone start for the week on Friday, August 14, Davalillo tossed 6.0 scoreless innings against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros affiliate) at Dell Diamond. He allowed only one hit with no walks and seven strikeouts. Davalillo retired the first 12 batters he faced before he allowed his only baserunner of the ball game on a leadoff single in the fifth inning. His seven strikeouts were a Triple-A career-high.
Davalillo has not walked a batter in his last 13.1 innings which is the longest active streak in Triple-A. Friday marked the third time in his professional career he has delivered six innings or more while allowing only one hit. It’s the 10th time this year Express pitchers have lasted 6.0 innings or more in a start and the first time since RHP Josh Stephan did it on June 26 at Tacoma.
This season between High-A (1 GS), Double-A (7 GS) and Triple-A (9 G/8 GS), Davalillo is 1-8 with a 4.72 ERA (40 ER/76.1 IP) with 36 walks and 88 strikeouts. Among Rangers minor league pitchers this year, Davalillo is sixth in strikeouts (88) and he is 12th in innings (76.1). If he reaches 100.0 innings, it will be the third consecutive season with at least 100.0 innings pitched.
The Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela native is listed as the No. 14 (Baseball America) and No. 15 prospect (MLB.com) in the Rangers system. He signed with Texas to a minor league contract in 2022.
Davalillo is scheduled to start next on Thursday, August 20 at Southwest University Park against the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate). The Express return home for a 12-game homestand against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies affiliate) and Oklahoma City Comets (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) from Tuesday, August 25-Sunday, September 6.
