ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Round Rock Express and Nolan Ryan Foundation are partnering with the Robinson Chirinos Foundation by hosting a donation drive on Sunday, August 2 when the Round Rock Express host the Reno Aces (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate) at Dell Diamond. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
Fans are asked to bring their new or gently used sporting equipment, which will directly help those impacted by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela last month. Donation bins will be located by Home Plate Gate.
The donation drive is being organized in conjunction with the Express’ Chupacabras de Round Rock theme night. Several times throughout the season, the Round Rock Express transform into the Chupacabras de Round Rock as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversión initiative. "Copa de la Diversión," or "Fun Cup," is a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with participating teams' local U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities.
The Robinson Chirinos Foundation is dedicated to providing food, clothing, equipment, sport facilities and items needed to attend school for the less fortunate. A statement from the Foundation reads, “Thanks to your generosity we will be able to deliver direct aid, shelter and hope to every person and family in need right now.”
Robinson Chirinos is a former Major League catcher from Punto Fijo, Venezuela. Across 11 seasons, Chirinos appeared with seven different Major League clubs, including seven years with the Texas Rangers (2013-18, 2020). He also appeared in 81 games over parts of three seasons with the Express (2013, 2015-16).
The Nolan Ryan Foundation’s mission is to provide resources for youth, education and community development. The Foundation is a conduit to nonprofits, students and community members for active assistance, growth and life-changing opportunities. In 2025, the Nolan Ryan Foundation distributed $1 million in scholarships, donations and community grants.
