The River Cats were defeated by the Reno Aces today in their season finale.
Seth Lonsway was the starter, sending down the Aces in order to begin the game.
Bo Davidson singled in the first and subsequently stole second base. It marked his 20thh stolen base on the season, 14 with Double-A Richmond and six with Sacramento.
He became the 59th minor league player to have at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases on the season, and 25th to do so between Double-A and Triple-A.
Lonsway and Reno starter Ashton Izzi would each retire the side in the second, and Wilkin Ramos entered in the third in place of Lonsway and again sent the Aces down without a hit.
Fernando Gonzalez then knocked his first career Triple-A home run, a 402-foot, solo shot to left center field to five the Kitties a 1-0 lead.
After Tommy Troy grounded out to begin the fourth, Santiago Espinal drew a walk, giving Reno their first base runner of the day. Then the Aces answered back with a home run of their own from Adrian Del Castillo, his 13th of the season and eighth with Reno.
Another walk to Demetrio Crisantes and a single to Aramis Garcia had the Aces threatening again, but a leaping catch by Parks Harber and throw on to second for the double play kept them at just two runs on the inning.
After a quiet fifth and sixth, Dale Stanavich entered the game, making his Triple-A season debut. He allowed a leadoff walk to Garcia, followed by a single to Gavin Conticello. A.J. Vukovich grounded out, then Kristian Robinson knocked a line drive to score two more runs but was thrown out at third. Anderdson Rojas singled then stole both second and third base, and Stanavich gave up walks to Troy and Espinal to load the bases and was replaced by Nick Zwack who struck out Del Castillo to end the inning.
The Cats were retired in order once again.
Zwack gave up a double to Cristanes in the eighth and plunked Garcia, but then struck out Conticello, Vukovich, and Kristian Robinson consecutively.
Zielinski drew a leadoff walk, and Gonzalez was hit by pitcher Landon Sims. Darren Baker lined out and Bo Davidson drew a walk to load the bases, but Harber grounded into a double play, ending the inning without another Kitty run.
Eric Cerantola came in to pitch the ninth and allowed a single to Rojas who was then caught attempting to swipe second. Troy lined out, followed by a single to Espinal, and a fly out to Del Castillo to round out the Aces’ final inning of the season.
Eddys Leonard flied out, Charlie Szykowny grounded out, and Aeverson Arteaga struck out swinging to end the season.
Wilkin Ramos was dealt the loss, his third of the season.
The River Cats end with a losing record in the second half, 37-38, but an overall record of 79-68 on the season, the third-best record in the Pacific Coast League.
