Game Summary
Salt Lake brought its winning momentum from last night’s come-from-behind victory, plating two runs in the top of the second. Christian Moore singled to lead off the inning and, after a lineout, Pablo Reyes bunted for a single. Niko Kavadas came through, pulling a single into right field to score Moore and give Salt Lake its first run. Jeimer Candelario followed immediately after, singling in Reyes to give the Bees an early 2-0 lead.
El Paso answered back in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of back-to-back walks to begin the inning. A double off the wall plated both runners, while a second-straight double scored the runner from second to give the Chihuahuas a 3-2 lead. Nick Pratto capped the inning for the home squad with a 437-foot two-run blast, extending their lead to 5-2 after the first.
Cade Marlowe launched a solo home run to start off the second inning, cutting Salt Lake's deficit to two. The Bees put two more runners on base, but were unable to bring any more runs across, ending the top half of the second trailing 5-3.
The game remained locked until the fourth inning, when Marlowe led off with a single. Logan Porter immediately followed with a deep double into the right-center gap, driving in Marlowe to bring the Bees within a run.
Salt Lake’s third pitcher, Mitch Farris, came into the game in the fifth and recorded two quick outs. Following a hit-by-pitch, Ethan Salas roped his fifth homer of the year, a two-run shot to extend the lead to three.
The Bees picked up the southpaw in the top of the sixth. After a Marlowe leadoff groundout, two Bees walked back-to-back. Nelson Rada singled to load the bases, and Reyes came through with a double to clear the bases and knot the game at seven.
Ben Gobbel, in his second at-bat after pinch-hitting for Niko Kavadas, singled to score Reyes and give Salt Lake its first lead since the first inning, 8-7. Gobbel moved to second on a wild pitch, and Jeimer Candelario came through with his 10th homer of the season, banging off the bricks in right field to extend the lead to 10-7 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
A single, a reached-on error and a walk all came around to score in the top of the next inning. Rada plated Marlowe from third after he singled, and in the next at-bat, Reyes broke his bat and blooped a single into center to score Porter, who reached on an error.
Gobbel followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Moore, who walked earlier in the inning, to extend Salt Lake’s lead to 13-7.
Neither team scored further down the stretch, as Farris along with Dillon Tate closed out the contest for the Bees to seal the series win and win their third straight game.
Game Notes
- The Bees have won three straight games, notching their longest winning streak since a four gamer between June 12-16, when they took the final three at Reno and the series opener against Tacoma at home. Sunday was the 15th win of the second half for Salt Lake, holding a 15-30 record with 30 games left in the campaign.
- Salt Lake secured its first series win at El Paso since April 25-29, 2018 (a 5-game set). The Bees were winless in their last six sets at ELP (two splits, four losses), and this week marks just the fifth series ever won at Southwest University Park (2014, 2017, 2018 - twice). It is Salt Lake’s first six-game road series win versus the Chihuahuas in franchise history. Today also marked the Bees’ eighth win over El Paso this season, a new single-season record since the two teams began playing each other in 2014.
- This week’s series victory marks the first since taking a three-game weekend set at home over the Reno Aces (2-1). It is the first six-game series win since defeating Reno in four of six games on the road in Nevada on June 9-14. The series victory snapped a streak of seven consecutive winless six-game sets (two splits, five losses).
- This week was the final series in the state of Texas this season for Salt Lake, posting a 1-1-1 record against Round Rock (split), El Paso (win) and Sugar Land (swept).
- The Bees finished 7-11 over those three six-game sets. The Bees are now 14-2 when they score 10 or more runs. With today’s 13-7 they’re now an even 9-9 when allowing seven runs. Salt Lake came up with hits on Sunday, moving to 37-19 when notching double-digit hits and 38-7 when outhitting its opponent.
- Salt Lake hit into three double plays, pushing their total in El Paso this week to 10 twin killings created. It is the franchise’s most over one series in the six-game series era (since 2021). The previous high was nine double plays, done against Round Rock at home on June 3-8, 2025. Both teams combined for six twin killings today, marking the second time Salt Lake has been in a game with half-a-dozen double plays (April 23 at Las Vegas: three for each side).
- The Bees drew 10 walks today, reaching double digits in that column for the fifth time in 2026 and doing so for the first time since July 31 at Sugar Land. Salt Lake is 3-2 in games where they have 10+ free passes, last winning on July 12 at Sacramento. It was the Bees’ first game of the season where they had 10+ runs, 10+ walks and 10+ hits in the same contest. It is the 17th occurrence of that line in franchise history (since 2005) and first since April 1, 2025 at Albuquerque (a 15-1 win); Salt Lake has won the game in every one of those 17 chances. The Bees have drawn 609 walks, second most in Triple-A sitting five behind Columbus (AAA, Cleveland); the next closest PCL squad is Oklahoma City with 591 free passes.
- In his 19th start of the season, right-handed starter Caden Dana was pulled after just one inning—his shortest outing since April 24 in Las Vegas. He allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one through 32 pitches.
- On the fourth pitch of the game, Christian Moore bounced a seeing-eye single into right field. The knock extended his on-base streak to 13 games and his hit streak to two straight games. Moore walked twice, his 14th game with multiple free passes; he has drawn a walk in 12 of his last 13 games, with 15 total in that span.
- Pablo Reyes laid a bunt down the third-base line that stayed fair. The slow roller extended the veteran’s hit and on-base streaks to two straight games. In the sixth inning, Reyes delivered in a huge moment with the bases loaded, driving a double—his 26th of the year—to clear the bases. This performance marks back-to-back multi-hit games for Reyes and his fifth in the past six contests. He added an RBI single in the next inning to reach 100 hits in 2026. Against his former team this week in El Paso, Reyes batted 10-for-20 (.500) with four extra-base hits, four RBI and five runs scored. The infielder notched four RBI on Sunday, his third such performance in 2026 and second with the Bees (July 17 vs. Reno).
- Niko Kavadas cashed in after two singles put runners on the bags. The first baseman pulled a single to right field, scoring Christian Moore from second. Kavadas extended his hit and on-base streaks to four games while recording an RBI in each of his last three games. He now sits just two hits away from 50 on the season. Kavadas continues to be a menace in August, increasing his average to .386 (17-for-44) - a career-high in a single month for the infielder.
- The fourth single of the first inning came off Jeimer Candelario’s bat, scoring the runner from third and giving Salt Lake its second run of the game. The first-year Bee pushed his on-base streak to seven games and his hit streak to three. Candelario’s RBI was his 40th of the season. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native obliterated his 10th homer of the season to give Salt Lake a 10-7 lead in the sixth. Candelario now has 99 homers in the minor leagues, sitting just one away from 100. It was his second home run in August and first since Aug. 9 against Oklahoma City. It’s the first time Candelario has reached double-digit homers at the Triple-A level in a season since his 15-homer campaign in 2017 with Toledo and Iowa.
- Cade Marlowe crushed his 10th homer of the season, watching it bounce off the street deep beyond the right field wall. It’s his third homer as a Bee and first round-tripper since July 25 against Omaha. He now has hits in back-to-back games. Marlowe followed up with a single in his subsequent plate appearance, recording his third multi-hit effort of August and his first since facing Oklahoma City on August 6. The Georgia native put together a four-hit performance in today's game, marking the third time he has accomplished the feat this season and his first with Salt Lake. This is his first four-hit game since June 18 during his time with Las Vegas.
- Logan Porter drew a walk following the lead-off home run in the second inning, extending his on-base streak to two consecutive games. Following that, Porter smashed a line-drive double off the wall in right-center for his fifth double of the year and first since August 2 at Sugar Land. It marked his second game with a hit in his past three outings and drove in his first run since August 5 versus Oklahoma City.
- After getting robbed of a hit in his first at-bat, Nelson Rada drew a walk in his second. The outfielder has reached base in seven straight games. He now has 56 free passes on the year, trailing only Christian Moore for the team lead. Rada singled with one out in the sixth inning to push his hit streak to three games.
- In his second at-bat after pinch-hitting for Niko Kavadas, Ben Gobbel singled to score the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. He has now reached base and recorded a hit in back-to-back games. The hit was his 50th at the Triple-A level and 45th this season. He also has hits in three of his last four games.
- In his 10th game for Salt Lake, newcomer Raudi Rodriguez led off the eighth inning by drawing a walk, extending his streak of drawing a free pass to four consecutive games.
- Omar Martinez entered as a pinch-hitter for Logan Porter and drew a walk in his lone plate appearance. The free pass moved his on-base streak to three games.
- In three innings of work during his fifth outing as a Bee, Leonard Garcia registered his second scoreless appearance. He has now posted scoreless outings in two of his last three games, and his three innings marked his longest outing at any level since pitching 3.1 innings for High-A Tri-City on September 6, 2024.
- In his longest Triple-A performance since tossing five innings in Las Vegas on April 23, Mitch Farris earned his first win at the Triple-A level today. Across three innings, he allowed two runs on two hits, issuing one walk while striking out one batter.
- Dillon Tate tossed two innings of one-hit ball and struck out two, turning in his first scoreless outing since August 1 at Sugar Land.
