Cardinals Soar Offensively in 14-4 Win

Springfield hits four home runs

SPRINGFIELD (Aug. 262026) — The Springfield Cardinals used four home runs to earn a 14-4 victory over the San Antonio Missions on Wednesday night at Route 66 Stadium.

Springfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. After Tai Peete singled, Jake Gurevitch drove him in with an RBI double.

The Missions evened the contest in the second. They loaded the bases with a Romeo Sanabria double, Ryan Jackson single and Justin Decrisio single. Brendan Durfee drove in Sanabria with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom half, the Cardinals loaded the bases as well. Ryan Campos came home on a Peete infield single to give Springfield a 2-1, but Luis Gutierrez and Igor Gil combined to limit the damage. 

The Cardinals extended their lead to 6-1 in the fourth with four runs. Tre Richardson led off with double and scored on a Rainiel Rodriguez RBI groundout. Tai Peete later walked and came home on a Jesus Baez RBI double. Jake Gurevitch then launched a towering two-run long ball, his second in Double-A. 

In the fifth, Kai Roberts drew a one-out walk and stole second. Alex McCoy ripped an RBI single to left two batters later, scoring Roberts to make it 6-2. 

Springfield added three more runs in the sixth to take a 9=2 lead. A Baez double was followed by Gurevitch’s second long ball of the night. Deniel Ortiz then hit a home run of his own as the next batter, his second blast in as many games. 

In the seventh, Jesus Baez launched a three-run blast for his 21st Double-A homer, pushing the Cardinals’ lead to 12-2.

Tirso Ornelas homered for San Antonio in the top of the eighth, his 14th long ball of the season. 

Tai Peete added a two-run single in the eighth, as Springfield went on to close out a 14-4 victory on Wednesday night.
