FRISCO, Texas (Aug. 16, 2026) — The San Antonio Missions (20-25) battled back from two separate deficits, but the Frisco RoughRiders (24-21), playing as the Quesos de Frisco, answered time and time again and took an 8-5 win to secure a series win in the last of 24 games between the Texas League South rivals.

San Antonio once again jumped on the board in the first when Alex McCoy singled home Romeo Sanabria to take a 1-0 lead against Frisco starter Blake Townsend.

The lead gave Ian Koenig, the Missions starter who had dominated in Frisco this season, a good runway to do so again. Koenig retired the first seven Quesos he faced, but a Corey Joyce single set up Marcus Lee Sang’s two-run splash into the lazy river that gave Frisco a 2-1 advantage in the third.

Townsend settled in after allowing a run in the first inning. He set down five straight at one point and struck out six. However, the Missions got to him in the sixth. McCoy again singled in a run, this time to tie the game, before Jack Costello’s line drive single provided San Antonio a 3-2 lead while also forcing Townsend out of the game.

Despite the Missions giving Koenig the lead, Frisco bounced right back in the bottom of the sixth. Koenig stood one strike away from escaping a jam, but Yeison Morrobel

looped a ball that barely stayed fair down the right field line, tying the game at three. The next batter, Ian Moller, split the left-center field gap with a two-run double to make it 5-3 Frisco.

The Quesos turned to Leandro Lopez out of the bullpen, and he threw a clean seventh, but San Antonio struck against him in the eighth. Braedon Karpathios fought off a two-strike pitch to drive in Ryan Jackson, and then Costello came through with another big single that tied the game at five. With two still in scoring position, pinch-hitter Tirso Ornelas roped a ball 111mph to right, but Morrobel got to it to keep the game tied.

Frisco didn’t let the tie last long. They loaded the bases off Igor Gil in the bottom of the eighth, and on a full count pitch, Corey Joyce drove a ball to the left field wall to drive in two and hand Frisco a 7-5 lead. Lee Sang continued his assault with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-5. Bernard Jose entered and stranded the bases loaded, but the damage had been done.

Austin Roberts took over in the ninth and quickly slammed the door on the Missions, earning the save and sealing Frisco’s series win.
