AMARILLO (AUGUST 1, 2026) — The San Antonio Missions picked up their first win of the series in heroic fashion, holding on for a 7-5 extra-inning win over the Amarillo Sod Poodles on Saturday night at Hodgetown.
Ryan Jackson and Braedon Karpathios combined for seven hits and five RBIs in the game. finished 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. One of his four hits included an RBI single in the two-run 11th inning. Karpathios was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBIs.
Both teams traded runs in the first inning. Karpathios briefly gave the Missions the lead with an RBI double. Amarillo took a 2-1 lead on a Jansel Luis RBI groundout and Ben McLaughlin RBI single.
Jackson’s second home run of the season evened the game at 2 in the fourth, before a Druw Jones sacrifice fly in the bottom half made it 3-2 Amarillo.
In the fifth, Jackson drove in Ornelas with an RBI single to once again even the contest.
Karpathios helped the Missions take the lead in the seventh. After a Tirso Ornelas double, Karpathios drove him home with an RBI single to put San Antonio in front 4-3.
That held until the bottom of the ninth. The Missions were one out away from victory, with Ben McLaughlin at first base. However, Alberto Barriga doubled off the wall to score McLaughlin. Josh Mallitz then escaped a jam, sending the game to extra innings.
Luis Verdugo provided his first hit of the night in the 10th, an RBI single to score the automatic runner Jackson.
Amarillo sent the game to the 11th, as Trent Youngblood drove in Adrian De Leon with an RBI single and made it 5-5. Francis Peña escaped after stranding runners at first and second with one out.
San Antonio scored the deciding two runs in the top of the eleventh. In his first at-bat of the game, Kai Roberts singled home Chris Sargent Jr. to put the Missions in front. Three batters later, Jackson followed with another RBI hit.
Sadrac Franco then shut the door in the 11th, earning his third save. After a walk, he punched out two. Then Roberts saved the game on a diving catch in shallow center for the third out, capping off a remarkable 7-5 win over Amarillo.
