SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 5, 2026) — The San Antonio Missions today announced the San Antonio Breakfast Tacos as their new alternate identity. The Breakfast Tacos will take the field for the first time during the 2027 regular season from Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18.
“San Antonio has always stood at the intersection of Mexican and American culture,” said Missions General Manager David Gasaway. “Nowhere is that more present than the breakfast taco.”
When San Antonians wake up and have somewhere to go, chances are they’re grabbing a breakfast taco on the way. With little time to spare, the day’s most important meal gets wrapped in a warm, flaky tortilla that serves as a reliable and affordable vehicle to get the day started. Pair fluffy scrambled eggs with meat like chorizo or bacon, go with the classic bean and cheese, or build your own adventure. Whatever the choice, breakfast tacos never disappoint.
Everyone has their favorite style, and of course their go-to spot. Throw a stone—or a baseball—in any direction, and it’s likely to land at a place that serves breakfast tacos. No two places are the same, and yet they all feel familiar. Whether it’s quickly stopping by the drive-thru window or grabbing a seat inside if you have an extra moment, goodness awaits. Sometimes you don’t even need to leave home because the comal in the kitchen is already warming up the tortillas. And despite the name, breakfast tacos are just as good at night after a long day, or even as a centerpiece for lunch.
“As San Antonio’s professional baseball club, the Missions have always represented various aspects of what makes this city special, starting with the five Spanish missions that helped found the city of San Antonio three centuries ago,” Gasaway said. “In 2018, the introduction of our Flying Chanclas identity added a vibrant flair to our representation of the rich Hispanic culture not just in San Antonio but all around us. Now, we introduce our new alternate identity as the Breakfast Tacos, honoring a food that has fully captured the essence of San Antonio.”
The new identity features the logo of a bean and cheese breakfast taco, an undeniable classic. A new uniform, highlighted by a cast-iron black and refried brown jersey, will accompany the identity when the team takes the field. Other colors seen throughout the lettering and imagery include frijol, platinum foil, melted gold and tortilla tan.
While tacos have been a staple in Mexico for centuries, the breakfast taco has been cooked with San Antonio's special sauce since the mid 1900s. A city full of hard-working people who cherish family and heritage, San Antonio is proud of its history, and its food helps craft that story. No, it’s not a burrito. And while the popularity has spread beyond the Alamo City, make no mistake: the breakfast taco belongs to San Antonio.
