SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 6, 2026) — The Springfield Cardinals (24-12) utilized a five-run second inning that included a two-run blast from Dakota Harris and a dominant eight strikeout performance from southpaw starter Liam Doyle to outpace Las Flying Chanclas de San Antonio (15-21) in their 9-2 defeat.
In the first, Springfield’s Tai Peete and Josiah Ragsdale reached and gambled for a double steal in which San Antonio’s Anthony Vilar fired off a timely throw to third base to catch Peete out stealing. Vilar caught another Cardinal stealing in the same stanza after Jesus Baez’s single, but it came at a cost as Ragsdale scored after playing a little duck and dodge to avoid being caught out.
The Cardinals picked up the pace on the Flying Chanclas in the second inning, scoring five runs off an RBI single, a two-run homer and a two-run double to inflate their lead over San Antonio 6-0.
Jake Cunningham singled, Braedon Karpathios was walked, and Ryan Jackson grabbed a base hit to load the bases in the fourth inning on Doyle. Jack Costello grounded into a double play but managed to score Cunningham in the process. Karpathios followed by sprinting across home plate after a passed ball to trim Springfield’s lead down 6-2.
After a rocky start from Flying Chanclas starter Fernando Sanchez, relievers Francis Peña and Harry Gustin held the Cardinals scoreless for a combined 4.1 innings and six strikeouts. Clay Edmondson also did his part in not allowing runs in the seventh, but the duo of Peete and Ragsdale struck again in the eighth inning as Peete scored after a free pass and a hard hit double from Ragsdale.
Springfield scored two more times in the top of the ninth inning to mark double-digits in the run column. San Antonio’s heart of the order were set down in their next turn to close out the game in their 9-2 loss.
