GIANTS HOST PORTS THIS WEEK: The defending California League champion San Jose Giants host the Stockton Ports (Athletics affiliate) this week in a six-game series at Excite Ballpark. The Giants are 12-6 against the Ports this season having won four of six games in their only previous meeting in the South Bay (May 19-24), in addition to posting an 8-4 record at Stockton’s Banner Island Ballpark. This week’s matchup marks the final meeting of the regular season between the two clubs.
HOME COOKING: Tuesday is the beginning of a season-high 12-game, 13-day homestand for the Giants. Following the current series against Stockton, the homestand continues next week with six games versus the Fresno Grizzlies. The Giants will play 18 of their 26 games in August at Excite Ballpark. Entering the week, San Jose is six games above .500 both at home (27-21) and on the road (30-24) this season.
POST-BREAK BLUES: The Giants entered the All-Star break last month with a league-best 53-34 record, but have gone just 4-11 since the break. San Jose has suffered three straight series losses since the All-Star break going 1-2 at Stockton, 1-5 vs. Ontario during the last homestand and then 2-4 at Rancho Cucamonga last week. The Giants led after the seventh inning in five of the 11 losses and have gone 0-4 in one-run games during the stretch. Rancho Cucamonga rallied from five runs down in two of their four wins versus the Giants last week.
WELCOME TO SAN JOSE: The San Jose Giants welcomed the top two prospects in the San Francisco organization – infielders Josuar Gonzalez (#1) and Luis Hernandez (#2) – to the club on July 24. Gonzalez, 18, hit .343 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 24 RBI’s and a .966 OPS in 30 games for the ACL Giants (Rookie-level) this season prior to his promotion. He was an All-Star in the Dominican Summer League in 2025 and is currently ranked the #15 overall prospect in baseball by MLB.com. Hernandez, 17, batted .298 with 19 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 45 RBI’s and a .917 OPS in 54 games for the ACL Giants prior to his promotion to the California League. Hernandez is in his debut professional season and currently checks in as the #31 overall prospect by MLB.com.
RECORD-SETTING OFFENSIVE PACE: It’s been an outstanding season at the plate thus far for San Jose as the Giants are currently on a record-setting pace for runs scored and home runs. The Giants’ current average of 6.6 runs per game would establish a new single-season team record currently held by last year’s championship club (6.1 runs/game). Additionally, San Jose enters the week with 123 home runs this season putting them on a pace (159 HR) to shatter the club record of 150 homers set by the 2021 championship team. Five current Giants players have already achieved double-digit home run totals this season – Jeremiah Jenkins (13 HR), Cam Maldonado (13), Dario Reynoso (12), Rod Barajas Jr. (11) and Lorenzo Meola (11). Jenkins has hit nine of his 13 homers in the second half while Barajas Jr’s recent power surge has seen him hit five home runs in his last five games played.
FIRST HALF CHAMPS: The Giants clinched the first half North Division title in June and secured a berth in the California League playoffs. San Jose finished the first half with a 37-29 record – one game ahead of the Fresno Grizzlies for the top spot in the North Division. It’s the seventh consecutive season (2019, 2021-26) that the Giants have reached the playoffs and the third time in the last four years (2023, 2025-26) winning the first half. San Jose was 25-22 and two games behind Fresno in the standings on May 27 before winning 11 of their next 14 to clinch the division crown. The Giants open the postseason on Tuesday, September 8 with Game 1 of the best-of-three North Division Series. The Giants will attempt to become the first Cal League team to repeat as champions since San Jose’s back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.
TRENDING UP: The Giants have seen notable month-by-month improvement on the mound as this season has progressed. San Jose logged a 5.78 team ERA in April (5th in league), improved to a 4.94 mark in May (3rd), a 4.68 ERA in June (3rd) before a league-leading 4.35 ERA in July. At the start of this week, the Giants (4.97 ERA) hold a slim lead over Inland Empire (5.00) and Lake Elsinore (5.05) for the top team ERA in the California League. San Jose has led the league in ERA a remarkable five consecutive seasons dating back to 2021. Individual pitching standouts include Ricardo Estrada, who has logged an impressive 2.52 ERA since the beginning of May (13 appearances/11 starts) while Keyner Martinez ranks third in the California League with 109 strikeouts (in 74 innings) this season.
ODDS AND ENDS: The Giants finished July with an even 12-12 record … San Jose previously went 16-8 in April, 13-14 in May and 15-10 in June … Five of the top 18 prospects in the San Francisco organization according to MLB.com are now on San Jose’s active roster – SS/2B Josuar Gonzalez (#1), 3B/SS Luis Hernandez (#2), RHP Keyner Martinez (#8), RHP Argenis Cayama (#13) and 2B/SS Lorenzo Meola (#18) … The Giants are 47-21 (.691) when scoring first in a game this season compared to 10-24 (.294) when their opponent scores first … Rod Barajas Jr. has 17 RBI’s over his last six games … The Giants are 28-7 in their last 35 games versus Stockton dating back to June of last season … Lorenzo Meola led the Giants in doubles (11), home runs (5) and RBI’s (24) in July (24 games) … San Jose pitchers have allowed 20 homers over the last 12 games (3-9) … The Giants are 0-5 in their last five one-run games after going 11-1 in their previous 12 one-run contests.
