WORCESTER, MA (August 30, 2026) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders dropped a 13-10 decision to the Worcester Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park. The RailRiders launched five home runs in a comeback effort, but fell short and saw the Red Sox split the six-game set.
Kristian Campbell staked the WooSox to a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo home run to right.
The RailRiders responded with two runs in the top of the third to take the lead. J.C. Escarra singled in Jasson Domínguez, and Max Schuemann drove in Marco Luciano for a 2-1 edge. Worcester loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled in two runs to give Worcester a 3-2 lead. Romy Gonzalez and Brett Harris extended the advantage with a pair of two-run doubles for a 7-2 WooSox advantage.
Campbell’s second home run of the game, a three-run effort in the fifth, gave Worcester a 10-2 lead.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre stormed back in the sixth with seven runs on six hits, keyed by four home runs. Tyler Hardman’s three-run, 403-foot blast to left narrowed the deficit to five. Ernesto Martínez Jr. followed Hardman with a solo drive to right over the Worcester Wall. With two down, Anthony Volpe’s seventh RailRiders’ home run cut the gap to three. Luciano’s fourth home run of the week was a two-run, 424-foot no-doubter to left, trimming the WooSox lead to one at 10-9.
A pair of bases-loaded walks gave Worcester a 12-9 lead in the bottom of the seventh.
Volpe went yard again in the eighth to cut the deficit to 12-10, but Gonzalez added a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to keep the WooSox edge at three runs and close the scoring.
Kyle Carr (0-2) allowed the first three runs and took the loss for the RailRiders, while Max Carlson (1-0) garnered the win. Hobie Harris worked the ninth for his third save.
Six RailRiders had multi-hit games, paced by three-hit afternoons from Volpe, Domínguez, and Escarra, and all nine batters reached at least once.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on Tuesday, September 1, to host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Gates open at 3:30 P.M. as the RailRiders and IronPigs resume play of an August 16 suspended game. Play resumes in the second inning at 4:05, and the game will be completed to a full nine innings with Lehigh Valley serving as the home team. Game two will be played to seven innings, starting approximately 30 minutes after the suspended game concludes. One ticket grants entry to both games.
