MOOSIC, PA (September 1, 2026) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders split a doubleheader against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders lost game one, 4-2, but responded in game two with a 16-0 victory.
Game one was a continuation of the suspended game at Lehigh Valley on August 16th. Each team sent three batters to the plate in the first inning before play was halted. Play resumed at PNC Field, with the RailRiders as the visiting team.
The RailRiders opened the offense in the top of the fourth against IronPigs pitcher Drake Fellows. Jasson Domínguez singled to lead off and advanced to third on Max Schuemann’s double. J.C. Escarra’s RBI groundout and Yanquiel Fernández’s double gave the RailRiders a 2-0 lead.
RailRiders right-hander Adam Kloffenstein silenced the IronPigs’ bats over six strong frames, allowing only two hits and leaving five runners stranded, keeping Lehigh Valley off the board until the eighth, when the IronPigs took the lead. Steward Berroa ricocheted a single off Kloffenstein’s glove to score Robert Moore from second and cut the deficit to one. Kameron Misner deflected another pitch off Kloffenstein, plating Berroa to level the game at two. With two aboard and two outs, Otto Kemp drove home a pair with a triple to left-center, giving the IronPigs a 4-2 advantage.
Kloffenstein (2-10) allowed four runs on five hits, striking out six through 6.2 innings in defeat. Fellows tossed 6.0 frames, allowing two runs on seven hits. Tanner Banks (1-1) was credited with the win, pitching two scoreless frames on an MLB rehab assignment.
In game two, Anthony Volpe blasted his ninth homer of the year in the bottom of the first to stake Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to an early 1-0 lead. After Domínguez singled and Marco Luciano walked, Escarra singled and Cabrera reached on a force out to extend the advantage to three.
Volpe singled in his second at-bat in the bottom of the third, stealing second and third before scoring on a Luciano sacrifice fly for a 4-0 cushion.
After Tyler Hardman singled in the bottom of the fourth, Kenedy Corona turned on a sweeper, sending it 377 feet over the left-field wall. The following inning, Dominguez singled and Escarra hit the RailRiders' second two-run homer of the game to pull ahead eight runs.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Volpe and Dominguez walked before Luciano, Escarra, and Cabrera all singled. Hardman and Fernández walked to load the bases for Corona, who hit his second homer of the game, this time a grand slam, to left for a 16-0 lead to cap the scoring.
Escarra was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs, and Corona was 2-for-4 with six RBIs and two runs. Volpe and Dominguez each had three runs and two hits apiece.
The RailRiders used four bullpen relievers in the game, holding Lehigh Valley to one hit, two walks, and eight strikeouts in the shutout. Zach Messinger (8-1) earned the win, tossing 2.0 scoreless frames. Ryan Cusick (1-7) surrendered three runs on three hits through one inning of work in defeat.
