WORCESTER, MA (August 28, 2026) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders shutout the Worcester RedSox 2-0 on Friday night. Alexander Cornielle silenced the Red Sox through eight innings and Brad Hanner tossed the ninth to finish the contest.
Yanquiel Fernández gave the RailRiders their first run of the game in the fourth inning. He slugged his 22nd homer of the season over the mini monster in right field.
In the fifth, Duke Ellis singled to reach. Anthony Volpe followed with an RBI double to score Ellis for a 2-0 advantage.
Ellis and Fernández both had two-hit games.
Cornielle (W, 4-3) worked eight shutout frames allowing just two hits and a pair of walks on 93 pitches. He struck out five batters enroute to pitching the longest start of his career. Brad Hanner (S, 5) earned the save with a quiet ninth inning. Boston's #9 prospect John Holobetz (L, 1-4) allowed the two runs in his five frames.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues their series against Worcester with a 4:05 PM first pitch on Saturday night. SWB scheduled #28 prospect Brendan Beck as their starter and the Red Sox will send southpaw Raymond Burgos to the mound.
