ROCHESTER, NY (September 10, 2026) –The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders lost 7-3 to the Rochester Red Wings Thursday night at ESL Ballpark. Two costly errors led to a five-run fifth for the Red Wings, giving Rochester a one-game lead over the RailRiders in the second-half standings with nine games left to play.
Elmer Rodríguez and Isaac Lyon dueled over the first four innings. Lyon scattered two hits and struck out five over the first four, while Rodríguez surrendered three hits and a walk.
The Red Wings broke the game open in the fifth, sending 11 to the plate. Rochester took a 1-0 lead on a sac bunt and a throwing error, and added a second run on an errant double play attempt. Buddy Kennedy’s two-run double extended the lead and Cayden Wallace singled in Kennedy for a 5-0 edge.
The RailRiders cut into the deficit with two runs on a pair of hits in the top of the sixth. Yanquiel Fernández singled in Max Schuemann, and an Oswaldo Cabrera single plated Marco Luciano. Rochester, however, countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to maintain a five-run edge.
An RBI groundout from Luciano capped the scoring in the seventh.
Rodríguez (8-4) took the loss, allowing five unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Lyon (2-0) earned the win with five shutout innings, striking out seven.
Game four of the series is slated for Friday at 6:05 P.M. Kyle Carr and DJ Herz will start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Rochester, respectively.
