Bridgewater, New Jersey – The New York Yankees have promoted George Lombard Jr., the organization’s No. 1 prospect, to their Major League roster. He is expected to make his debut at shortstop in tonight’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Yankee Stadium.
Lombard Jr. has hit .284/.411/.498 with 65 R, 82 H, 24 2B, 12 HR, 33 RBI and 14 SB in a combined 78 games between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. At the time of his promotion to Triple-A, Lombard Jr. was hitting .312/.400/.571 with 18 R, 24 H, 8 2B, 4 HR, 10 RBI and 4 SB in 20 games for the Patriots.
Lombard Jr., the son of six-year Major Leaguer George Lombard Sr., was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He has hit .248/.372/.391 with 220 R, 305 H, 83 2B, 8 3B, 26 HR, 133 RBI and 92 SB over 333 minor league games.
He received a non-roster invite by the Yankees to the past three spring trainings and represented the organization in each of the three Spring Breakout games (2024-2026) and selected to two All-Star Futures Games in 2025 and 2026 (did not play due to injury).
Lombard Jr. becomes the 58th former Patriot to make his MLB debut after playing in Somerset since the team became the Yankees Double-A affiliate in 2021. He also becomes the eighth former Patriot to debut in the majors in 2026.
