Bridgewater, New Jersey – After spending 18 days on the injured list with a strained right hamstring, center fielder Trent Grisham appears poised to rejoin the Yankees on Friday night in the Bronx in time for their weekend slate against the Twins. The two-time MLB Gold Glove Award winner checked all the boxes in his expectedly brief rehab stay with Somerset on Wednesday night at TD Bank Ballpark.
“I just want to be out there,” Grisham said. “Baseball players, that’s what we want to do is play. So when we’re not, I feel like we’re always just itching to get back.”
Grisham, who took live swings against Max Fried at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, admittedly “felt good” heading into action against Hartford. In his first and likely only rehab outing, Grisham went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in Somerset’s contest against the Hartford Yard Goats.
Prior to landing on the shelf back on June 13, Grisham was slashing .232/.341/.406 with eight homers and 35 RBI in 66 games after belting a career-high 34 long balls and driving home 74 runs in a breakout 2025 campaign for the Yankees.
The 29-year-old, who started in center field on Wednesday, drew a five-pitch walk out of the leadoff spot for Somerset in the first inning before coming around to score on Jace Avina’s 16th homer of the season in his first plate appearance of the night.
In the fourth, Grisham worked a full count before scorching a well-struck double to left center in his third plate appearance of the night. Grisham remained in the game defensively through the seventh inning before exiting action in the top of the eighth.
“I think the plan is to play here [in Somerset] tonight, hopefully everything goes well,” Grisham said. “Then off day tomorrow and hopefully back with the team on Friday.”
