Cardinals outlast the Hooks to clinch series win

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Cardinals scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning and held on to beat the Corpus Christi Hooks, 6-5, on Saturday night at Whataburger Field. 

Springfield got out to an early lead on a Jack Gurevitch two-run home run in the first inning and ultimately extended the lead to 5-1 before the Hooks tied the game with a four-run rally in the fifth. 

Domenic Picone pitched out of a runners at the corners, nobody out jam in the sixth inning and ultimately picked up the win.

NOTES:
• The Cardinals lowered their magic number for the North Division second half title to three.
• Jesus Baez picked up his second-half league-leading 60th RBI. 
• The Cardinals clinched a series win with the victory and can finish 5-1 this week with a win in Sunday's finale.
