CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Cardinals scored eight runs in the first two innings to back a dominant Liam Doyle and went on to beat the Corpush Christi Hooks, 14-1, on Thursday night at Whataburger Field.
Doyle earned his fourth-straight win and allowed just one run over 5.2 innings while allowing just four hits. He's allowed just nine earned runs in his last 10 starts.
Springfield took advantage of early walks and hit-by-pitches and scored the first seven runs without recording a hit. They drew 13 walks and had four batters hit during the game.
Deniel Ortiz homered late in the game for his eighth of the season.

• The win lowered the Cardinals magic number for the second half title to five.
• Rainiel Rodriguez and Cade McGee each walked three times. Rodriguez picked up four RBIs.
