JUPITER, Fla. (August 16, 2026) – The Jupiter Hammerheads completed a 5-1 week against the St. Lucie Mets with a 7-3 victory in the Sunday series finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The Mets have lost seven of their last eight games.
Kuhio Aloy, the Mets 11th round pick from Arkansas, hit a pair of solo home runs. The homers were the first two of Aloy’s pro career. His homer in the second inning gave the Mets a 1-0 lead and his homer in the sixth tied the game 2-2.
The Mets could not contain Jupiter slugger Echedry Vargas, who recorded his second multi-homer game of the series. Vargas hit a two-run homer off Candido Cuevas in the fourth inning to put the Hammerheads up 2-1. Vargas hit a towering solo homer in the bottom of the sixth against Conner Ware to give the Hammerheads a 3-2 lead.
Vargas hit five home runs in the series and now leads the FSL with 21 homers. He’s the first Hammerhead to hit 20-plus homers since Marcell Ozuna in 2012.
The Hammerheads broke the game open with three runs in the seventh. One scored on a ground out, another scored on an error and Jeremy Almonte capped the inning with a RBI double off Jose Guevara to make it 6-2.
Hammerheads reliever Ian Medina walked four batters in the ninth inning, including Elian Peña with the bases loaded to force in a run that made it 7-3. Davidxon Lara came in and retired John Smith III as the tying run on a ground out to end the game.
Mets starter Will Watson (oblique) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings as he continued his MiLB rehab assignment.
The Mets (17-30, 50-63) are off on Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday when they start a six-game home stand against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. First pitch at Clover Park is 6:10 p.m.
