PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (September 1, 2026) – The St. Lucie Mets rallied from a 6-3 deficit at the seventh inning stretch to beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-6 on Tuesday night at Clover Park.
Ryan Tayman hit a three-run home run off Janero Miller with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6.
Jupiter reliever Kifraidy Encarnacion walked the bases loaded in the eighth inning. With two outs Encarnacion jumped ahead of Branny De Oleo 0-2. But De Oleo stayed patient and took four straight balls for a walk that forced home Kuhio Aloy for the go-ahead run.
Miguel Mejias struck out Jake McCutcheon looking to end the game with the tying run on second base. It was Mejias’ sixth save of the season.
Zack Mack pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to snag his team-high ninth win.
The Mets used seven pitchers. Irving Cota started on MiLB rehab assignment and pitched a perfect first inning with two strikeouts.
Dillon Stiltner pitched 2.0 hitless innings with three strikeouts.
The Mets got back-to-back RBI doubles from Jack Toomey and De Oleo in the second inning against Jupiter starter Dameivi Tineo to take a 3-1 lead.
The Hammerheads scored a run on a wild pitch by Roberto Pena in the third inning, then tie the game 3-3 on a bases loaded walk drawn by Wessley Roberson against Tyler McLoughlin in the fourth inning.
Echedry Vargas hit a two-run homer off Candido Cuevas in the seventh inning to give Jupiter a 5-3 lead. It was the 26th homer of the season for Vargas, who leads the FSL. It was his sixth long ball against the Mets in the last two series between the teams.
Tineo struck out 10 batters over 5.0 innings. He scattered two hits and was charged with three runs (two earned).
Bruin Agbayani (shoulder), one of the players acquired by the Mets in the AJ Minter trade with Minnesota, made his organizational debut. He went 1 for 4 with a double and a run while playing seven innings at second base.
Tayman was 1 for 3 with the homer, a walk, three RBI and two runs.
The Mets (22-38, 55-71) and Hammerheads (23-35, 60-64) play the second game of their series at Clover Park on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m.
