A night after their thrilling 10-inning victory, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (27-11, 59-53) were defeated by the Albuquerque Isotopes (19-19, 58-55) 10-1 on Saturday night at Isotopes Park.
Albuquerque struck first in the bottom of the first. After a walk put a runner aboard, Zac Veen connected on his 22nd home run of the season, giving the Isotopes an early 2-0 lead. Albuquerque added to their advantage in the second. Adael Amador and Veen each connected on two-run home runs, plating four more runs and extending Albuquerque’s lead to 6-0.
The Isotopes added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Veen hit on his third extra-base hit of the night to put a runner in scoring position before Chad Stevens followed with an RBI double, pushing the Isotopes’ advantage to 7-0.
RHP Trey McLoughlin matched his season-long outing, tossing 2.1 innings while allowing two hits and one run while punching out four batters, helping the Space Cowboys bullpen after RHP Bryce Mayer pitched 3.0 innings in his Triple-A debut.
Albuquerque added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. After two walks put runners aboard, Veen connected on his third home run of the night, extending Albuquerque’s lead to 10-0.
The Space Cowboys got on the board in the top of the eighth. Joey Loperfido doubled to put a runner in scoring position before CJ Alexander followed with an RBI double off the centerfield wall, plating Sugar Land’s lone run of the night.
RHP Julio Rodriguez provided scoreless relief for Sugar Land, tossing 1.1 innings while allowing one hit and striking out one. Raynel Delgado connected on a two-out single in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game as Albuquerque secured the 10-1 victory.
NOTABLE:
- Zach Dezenzo went 1-for-3 on Saturday night, extending his on-base streak to 28 games, the longest active streak in the Pacific Coast League. Dezenzo has now tied Jesús Bastidas for the longest on-base streak by a Space Cowboy since 2025.
- CJ Alexander went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Saturday night. His RBI double extended his on-base streak to nine games, his hitting streak to six games and his RBI streak to six games. Alexander has recorded an RBI in each game he has played since returning from the injured list on July 30. Since returning, Alexander is 8-for-25 with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, three walks and five runs scored.
- RHP Trey McLoughlin tossed 2.1 innings on Saturday night, tying his season high for his longest outing. He previously pitched 2.1 innings twice this season, on June 26 vs. El Paso and July 3 at Oklahoma City. McLoughlin also recorded a season-high four strikeouts.
- Cavan Biggio went 2-for-3 with a walk on Saturday night, reaching safely in every game of this week’s series against Albuquerque. It marked Biggio’s first multi-hit game since July 22 vs. Nashville.
- Raynel Delgado went 1-for-5 on Saturday night, extending his hitting streak to eight games. In his last eight games, Delgado is 17-for-36 with four doubles, two triples, 12 RBI, three walks and seven runs scored while striking out only five times.
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys wrap up their six-game set against the Albuquerque Isotopes on Sunday afternoon. RHP Ethan Pecko will start for Sugar Land, while RHP Jake Brooks will take the mound for Albuquerque. First pitch is set for 2:35 pm CT.
