3:26 AM UTC

After winning three straight games, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (34-16, 66-58) dropped game five of their six-game set, falling 5-1 to the Oklahoma City Comets (28-21, 69-54) on Saturday night at Constellation Field.

The Space Cowboys opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Jake Meyers singled to lead off the inning before Joey Loperfido was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Following a double play, Cavan Biggio delivered an RBI single to right field to bring home Meyers and give Sugar Land a 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma City evened the game in the top of the second. Two singles put runners on first and second before Zach Ehrhard followed with an RBI single to tie the game at one.

The Comets captured the lead in the top of the fifth. After a walk and stolen base put a runner in scoring position, James Tibbs III knocked an RBI double to give Oklahoma City the lead. A single and a sacrifice fly brought home another run later in the inning, extending the Comets' advantage to 3-1.

RHP Trey McLoughlin entered with two outs and runners on the corners in the fifth and induced a groundout to end the inning. McLoughlin went on to toss two more perfect innings, retiring seven straight batters while striking out two.

Sugar Land nearly found a response in the bottom of the fifth. Meyers tripled with one out and Loperfido followed with a walk before Pascanel Ferreras was hit by a pitch, loading up the bases. However, LHP Jackon Ferris struck out the next two batters to leave the bases full and turn Sugar Land away.

Oklahoma City added two more runs in the top of the eighth on a pair of sacrifice flies to extend its lead to 5-1. RHP Ryan Weiss entered in the ninth and struck out two while prompting a groundout to give Sugar Land one final opportunity to rally.

In the bottom of the ninth, LHP Ronan Kopp retired the side in order, recording a popout, strikeout and groundout to end the game as the Space Cowboys dropped just their sixth home game of the second half.

NOTABLE:

  • Jake Meyers collected his second multi-hit outing against the Comets this week, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. His triple marked his first of the season at any level and his first triple since July 3, 2025, when he was with Houston at Colorado.
  • Collin Price went 2-for-4 with a double on Saturday night. This marked Price’s first multi-hit game at Constellation Field since game two of the April 25 doubleheader against Round Rock and his third multi-hit outing at Constellation Field this season.
