TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Tarpons (40-18) and the Dunedin Blue Jays (30-28) were scheduled for a doubleheader on Wednesday to make up Tuesday’s rainout. Unfortunately, inclement weather persisted resulting in just one official game being played. The Tarpons won 4-0 in an abbreviated six inning showdown.
Tampa’s pitching staff was stellar. Tyler Boudreau started on the hill and tossed 3.0 scoreless innings. The right hander also fanned five batters before getting lifted from the game after being hit by a batted ball.
Rafael Arias earned the win in relief throwing 2.2 innings, striking out three, and not allowing a run.
The score was deadlocked at zero until Anthony Potestio launched a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Tarpons’ bats found more life in the bottom of the sixth inning. Luis Escudero led off the frame with a double down the right field line before Dax Kilby hit a blast over the Rooms To Go Patio. Right field remained busy when Wilberson De Peña sent a homer over his own into the bleachers, extending Tampa’s advantage to 4-0.
Play continued into the seventh inning but came to a halt as rainstorms persisted. Play ended with the Tarpons winning 4-0.
Tampa and Dunedin will be set for a doubleheader tomorrow at George M. Steinbrenner Field with game one starting at 4:00PM.
