PASCO – One of the newest members of the club and a man in the rotation from day one combined to help the Tri-City Dust Devils (18-22 2H, 53-53) Friday night, leading them to a 9-3 victory over the Hillsboro Hops (18-22 2H, 50-56) at Gesa Stadium.
The newer Dust Devil, SS Kendrey Maduro, went 2-for-4 in his first multi-hit game at the High-A level. The second hit proved the cherry on top of the Tri-City win, a long two-run home run in the bottom of the 8th that put the game away and serves as his first Northwest League home run. The native Aruban, who played collegiately at Central Florida, drove in three runs on the night. He also hit a sacrifice fly as part of a five-run 3rd inning that gave the Dust Devils their first lead of the week.
Starter Peyton Olejnik (5-7) returned to much more of his June form, giving up two runs in 5.1 innings and striking out eight Hops along the way to his third win over Hillsboro in 2026. The long, tall righty threw 96 pitches for his longest outing of the season. Relievers Francis Texido (2.2 IP, 1 R) and Sam Tookoian (1 IP, 0 R) covered the rest of the distance for Tri-City.
CF Hayden Alvarez and C Peter Burns also drove in runs for the Dust Devils, with Burns going 3-for-4 on the night and extending his on-base streak to 11 games.
DUST DEVILS NOTES
-RF Jorge Ruiz’s hit streak came to an end at 13 games, though he scored two of Tri-City’s runs. The lefty reached on a fielding error in the five-run 3rd inning, and a dropped third strike on an 8th inning strikeout.
-2,354 fans held tickets to the game, with the first 500 fans through the gates receiving a Charlie Blackmon bobblehead as part of a giveaway presented by Gesa Credit Union. The 14-year big leaguer and four-time All-Star played his 2008 season with the Dust Devils and took on a rehab stint with the club in 2012.
-Tri-City gained a game in the Second Half playoff race due to the Vancouver Canadians’ 7-4 win over the Everett AquaSox at Everett Memorial Stadium, moving to within three games of playoff position. The Eugene Emeralds won their fourth game in as many tries at Avista Stadium, defeating the Spokane Indians 4-2.
BRICK AND MORTAR
Tri-City and Hillsboro square off in game five of their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night at Gesa Stadium where, weather permitting, postgame fireworks will light the sky above the Tri thanks to Roto-Rooter.
A pair of right-handed Masons will take the mound with Mason McGwire (1-2, 4.91 ERA at High-A South Bend), who came over to the Angels in a trade deadline deal with the Chicago Cubs, making his Dust Devils debut. Mason Marriott (0-0, 1.93 ERA), who recently returned to the Northwest League after recovering from Tommy John surgery undertaken in May 2025, gets the start for the Hops.
