VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians shut out the Tri-City Dust Devils (LAA) 2-0 Tuesday night at The Nat in front of a sellout crowd. After the first six innings remained scoreless, the C’s plated the first run on an Edward Duran single in the seventh. Top Blue Jays prospect JoJo Parker made his Canadians debut and recorded his first hit, steal and run in the eighth inning to ensure the win. With the victory, the C’s are now just half a game back of first and are sitting in the final playoff position in the Northwest League.
In the eighth, Parker would record his first High-A hit to get on base. He would then steal second on the next pitch and advance to third on a wild pitch with a heads-up baserunning play. That set up a sacrifice fly from Gable Mitchell which allow him to score his first run and put the C’s ahead by two.
The first innings remained scoreless, while the C’s kept the Dust Devils from recording a hit until the sixth inning.
The Canadians broke open the scoring in the seventh. Maddox Latta drew a walk to open the frame, before a sacrifice bunt put him on second. Duran came up next and recorded his second hit of the night, an RBI single; however, he was caught out on the throw after thinking about heading to second.
Troy Guthrie got the start and kept the dust Devils hitless in his five innings. He gave up three walks and K’ed two during his time on the mound.
Gilberto Batista (W, 6-5) started his relief outing in the sixth. In the seventh, after giving up a two-out hit, Batista would then initiate a 1-3-6 pickoff/caught stealing to end the inning and keep the game scoreless. He scattered four hits in three innings, walked none and struck out one.
To close out the game, Reece Wissinger (S, 2) started the ninth, where he retired the first two batters before giving up a single and then ended the game on a flyout.
The C’s continue their hunt for the playoffs tomorrow during RBC We Care Wednesday. Largo, FL native Landen Maroudis will get the start against #8 Angels prospect Dylan Jordan. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. on Bally Sports Live, MiLB TV, the MiLB App and the C’s Broadcast Network.
