VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians extended their win streak to a season-high six games following a 14-4 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils (LAA) in front of a sellout crowd Thursday night at the Nat. The C’s led 3-1 for the first half of the game before the Dust Devils took the lead 4-3 in the seventh. Vancouver would go on to score 11 runs across the seventh and eighth, including a Maddox Latta three-run homer and a Max Viera grand slam to cap off the offensive outburst.
Last night’s hero Jake Casey got the scoring started in the first inning with an RBI single that put the C’s ahead 1-0. The Dust Devils tied things up in the top of the third, before the Canadians responded in the bottom of the stanza. Ty Southisene walked, then stole second and advanced to third on an error. After another error allowed Southisene to score, Ryan Sprock tripled home another run to make the score 3-1.
The middle innings were scoreless until the seventh, when Tri-City plated three runs to take the lead 4-3. The bottom of the stanza started off with two outs, before a walk and a double put two C’s in scoring position. Latta then sent his first Nat Bailey home run – his fifth overall of the season - into the Hey Y’all Porch to score three runs and make it 6-4. After two more walks, Bryce Chance then hit a two-run double to put the C’s ahead 8-4 at the end of the inning.
The Canadians plated six runs in the eighth to secure their win. After a single and four walks, Viera recorded his first High-A hit and homer, a grand slam into the Hey Y’all Porch off of position player David Mershon that helped the C’s march out to their 14-4 final score.
Dylan Watts made his first start since July 8th, returning from the IL. He pitched two innings, giving up a hit, walking three and striking out one. Entering in relief for the middle innings was Silvanio Hechavarria, before reliever Carson Myers (W, 1-2) took over in the seventh. Myers pitched for two innings, keeping Tri-City scoreless, giving up a pair of hits, a walk, and striking out two.
The Canadians will look to continue their win streak and playoff push tomorrow during the Fortis BC ‘Nooner at The Nat. Mississauga, Ontario's Connor O’Halloran will get the start against 6’11” righthander Peyton Olejnik. First pitch is set for 1:05 P.M.
