VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians' six game winning streak was snapped in a tight 5-4 loss against the Tri-City Dust Devils (LAA) Friday afternoon at The Nat. After the Dust Devils scored first in the fourth, the C’s would respond with two runs of their own in the sixth. The teams would trade runs back and forth until Tri-City secured the lead in the eighth, with the Canadians’ comeback falling one run short.
Connor O’Halloran and Dust Devils starter Peyton Olejnik dueled through the first portion of the game, with Tri-City taking a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning. The score stayed that way until the sixth, when Jean Joseph cracked a two-run shot to left field to give Vancouver the lead 2-1. That was the first of five consecutive half innings with runs scored.
After Tri-City took the lead back with two runs in the top of the 7th, Vancouver would tie it right back up with a Joseph sac fly that scored Gable Mitchell in the bottom half of the frame.
The Dust Devils would plate two more runs in the top of the eighth. The Canadians once again scored in the bottom half of the frame thanks to two hits and a wild pitch, but were unable to tie the game, losing by the final score of 5-4.
O’Halloran had a successful first start of the season, going 3.2 innings and giving up one unearned run before Bradley Wilson made his C’s debut in relief. His final line: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 BB, and 2 K.
Reece Wissinger (L, 4-3) took the hard-luck loss after allowing two runs - neither of which were earned - across two innings before Gilberto Batista pitched the ninth inning and held Tri-City scoreless.
The C’s will look to secure a series win tomorrow during Subaru Saturday. Newly acquired Dasan Hill will make his Nat Bailey debut opposite righthander Mason McGwire. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
