VANCOUVER, BC – Minor League Baseball has named Canadians outfielder David Calabrese as the Northwest League Player of the Week for August 31-September 6 after he went 14-for-28 (.500) with 23 total bases, three doubles, two home runs, eight runs scored, seven RBI and five steals while posting a 1.321 OPS in six games. It's the second weekly honour of his professional career and the 13th time a Canadian has earned a league award in 2026. That’s the most weekly recognitions for one team in the circuit this year and a franchise record for a single season.

Calabrese, 23, returned to Gesa Stadium in Pasco, WA on Tuesday for the first time since he spent 33 games in 2025 with the Tri-City Dust Devils (LAA) and put up a pair of hits – including a late-inning homer for an insurance run – to begin his big week at the dish.

He followed that up with his first of two four-hit games on Wednesday, striking a pair of doubles and driving in four to spur the C’s to a playoff spot-clinching win then singled, scored and stole three bases on Thursday night.

Friday saw the Richmond Hill, ON native stroke another four hits, highlighted by a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh as part of Vancouver’s 13-10 win in 10 innings. He would add two hits on Saturday and one more on Sunday to round out his impressive six-game series.

Since he was released by the Angels on August 4 and signed by the Jays on August 12, Calabrese is slashing .348/.386/.545 with a .931 OPS, 36 total bases, four doubles, three home runs, 13 runs scored, 10 RBI, four walks and seven steals in 16 games. He started his pro career as a third round pick (82nd overall) in 2020 out of St. Elizabeth Catholic High School in Thornhill, ON.

Calabrese and the Canadians are off today before going toe-to-toe with the Eugene Emeralds (SF) in Game 1 of the Northwest League Championship Series on Tuesday, September 8 and Game 2 on Wednesday, September 9 at The Nat. Tickets for both playoff games are available now at CanadiansBaseball.com.
