VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians fell short in a 6-3 loss to the Spokane Indians (COL) Saturday night at The Nat. Spokane scored four runs in the third to take an early lead and added two more in the fourth. The Canadians tried to respond with a Jake Casey two-run homer in the sixth and a Dameury Peña solo shot in the eighth but couldn’t complete the comeback. Despite the loss, the C’s will still wake up tomorrow in sole possession of first place as they continue their hunt for the playoffs with seven games remaining.

The game went scoreless until the third, when Spokane plated four runs, before adding two more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.

With one man on base in the sixth, Casey clubbed a big fly that came off the bat at 104 MPH to right field, spoiling Spokane’s shutout bid.

Peña hit his first High-A homer with in the eighth, landing it in the Indians’ bullpen to make it 6-3.

Landen Maroudis (L, 3-11) made his 24th start of the season; he retired the first six batters he faced before giving up three consecutive singles and a walk to let up the first run of the game. The Indians would get to him for a total of four runs in 2.2 innings of work. Colby Holcombe relieved Maroudis to finish out the third inning and would log two more frames of relief.

Franly Urena entered in the sixth, keeping his three innings scoreless, and needed only 20 pitches to retire the first six batters he faced. In the eighth, he gave up his only hit of the night before an inning-ending double play helped him face the minimum. In the ninth, Reece Wissinger had the ninth; he gave up no hits, no runs, walked one and struck out two.

The Canadians will play their final regular season home game tomorrow during White Spots Family Fun Sunday. It will be a rematch of Tuesday night’s pitching matchup when Silvano Hechavarria takes the mound against Everett Catlett. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
